Homebrew Ananasi (Revamped) Species Details
Whether in dim caverns or forests of tattered web these monstrous hunters came about as intelligent apex predators. Likely new to the civilised world they may lack social graces but retain the keen eye of a predator.
Half-Breeds
Ananasi are monstrous race resembling humans or elves from the waist up, but spiders from the waist down. The waist joining to the thorax whereon a spider's head would usually be. The spider-like lower body can share an appearance and markings with most common varieties of spiders. The humanoid upper body shows the same variety and range of appearance as humans, or shares a similar appearance to a non-ananasi humanoid parent. The humanoid upper body may bare some other spider-like characteristics such as: additional pairs of eyes up to eight, areas of chitin in place of skin, coatings of short stiff hairs, large black fangs etc.
Webs and Burrows
Most ananasi live in the wild in solitude or small communities built of either webs or burrows. Natural ambush predators with the addition of intelligence makes them exceptional hunters. Their high flying webs and secretive burrows are near impossible to locate for those not knowing what to look for. Visitors are rare and usually take the form of captives, as the ananasi are very protective of their oft fragile homes.
Exploration and Adventure
Wanderers among the ananasi are uncommon due to their secretive nature. Though they are not immune to curiosity, especially spiderlings graduating the brief moment of cold guidance that is ananasi parenting. Outcasts from the tribal matriarchy of ananasi communities are also not unheard of. Your ananasi may have heard tales of these great cities of two-legged folk or found an item or artwork that inspired them to explore.
