Homebrew aeronaut Species Details

Soaring above seas and oceans a pair of aeronauts spot a group of octopodes and dive, their aerodynamic bodies whistling as they break the wind barrier, they strike fast as lightning    and hit like thunder, another meal caught. 

 Flying Fish                                                                                                                                                                            

Aeronauts appear like aquatic creatures with pike like heads, fin like wings and short tails with fins similar to those of whales and sharks. While this not entirely wrong they actually just as related to dragons  as they are to fish, but this relation is not really obvious since they lack a breath weapon.

Their skin leathery and tough and coloration varying from various shades of an aquatic blue and depending on their habitat, there is no quick visible difference between males and females. On their backs they have white patterns each family having their unique pattern and on their wingtips they mark their family crest.

 Gliding Hunters                                                                                                                                                                    

Aeronauts don't fly in the literal sense of the word, they glide, they take off like birds but when they reach their preferred altitude they stop moving their wings and glide only sometimes moving them every now and then to gain speed. They are also amazing swimmers swimming just like they fly.

To hunt aeronauts soar around 90 feet above the water looking for prey. when they spot something they fly high up and dive adjusting their trajectory with their their wings and biting their prey as soon as they hit it.

 Loyalty and Rivalry                                                                                                                                                               

Aeronaut families have rivalries between each other not to the point  that they fight but in a more competitive manner. Speed contests and fishing competitions are commonplace however these are mostly among the older members, younglings often don't care about competitions often opting to work together to hunt more effectively. There exists a certain loyalty to their family among aeronauts: a will to protect and help each other, this caused many to sacrifice themselves for their family because aeronaut is seen as a hunting trophy among certain wicked individuals. Aeronauts don't see family as a simple relation by blood, but as a bond that's built up by familiarity and hardship, this causing that some families have members from different races.

 Islands, Skies and Seas                                                                                                                                                     

Aeronauts don't build homes and settlements, instead they have territories where they live with their families, these territories mostly consist of seas with small islands and lots of underwater caves. they spend most of their time hunting and living on the islands. Aeronauts can't actually breath underwater they just have very strong lungs and can hold their breath for up to a week. The underwater caves are where they breed and lay their eggs, when an aeronaut is ready to hatch they screech to inform the other hatchlings are ready to hatch so they can coordinate the hatching, this gives them higher chances of survival. foundlings from different races that can' breathe underwater are raised on the islands where the elders teach them how to survive, this is not done with aeronaut younglings as they have instinctive knowledge on how to hunt fly swim and survive.

 Sentient beasts                                                                                                                                                                    

Aeronauts are often called sentient beasts by more "civilized" races because of their culture, they often don't wear clothes because they think it limits their flying and swimming however they have no real problem with wearing clothes for the comfort of others. this and the fact they don't build means that they are often seen as mere animals, this is however far from the truth aeronauts don't wear clothes or build settlements because they don't need to, they have a balance with their habitat that doesn't require such things.
