Homebrew Delph Species Details

A Delph Is a race of beings that are a mix of High Elf and Mountain Dwarves. They share some common racial features and have a couple of Mutations that have granted non-traditional Elf or Dwarf features as well.  Delphs average Height is about 5'8" and although they have a more slender build than the average Dwarf they are not as tall and slender as the Elf.  They are stocky compared to an Elf, but they share some of the features of elves, such as smoother lines to the face and jaw, their skin is a tanned leather color with a faint copper hue to it. Their ears are pointed at the top, but not as drastic as the Woodland elves. Their hands and feet are not as short and stubby as a dwarfs are, but there is no mistaking the strength that they hold.

Delph's have  Superior Dark Vision without the Sunlight sensitivity suffered by the Drow Elves of the UnderDark, based on their lineage, with both Elves and Mountain Dwarves having such racial benefits. Delph's share the hearty constitution of their Dwarven ancestors, Granting a +1 to STR and CON, but sacrifice dexterity with a -1 to total DEX scores. Delph's also suffer a -1 to INT But gain proficiency  to the persuasion skill, due to the natural persistence and indeterminable spirit of their Dwarven and Elven ancestors. And so, as an Elven ancestral trait, with the bonus to the persuasion skill, Delph's also gain a nice +1 bonus to Charisma, but not to exceed their score total beyond 20.

Delph Traits

Delphs Come in varied sizes, but they average about 5ft 8 inches tall and are a bit on the more slender side than your average Drawf. They are hearty folk, but with less gruff features.

Delph Superior Dark Vision

Delph Superior DarkVision allows them to see 90 ft radius, 45ft in dim light as if in daylight, 45ft beyond that in complete darkness, even in color. However they do suffer a -1 to perception checks and any other skill checks that require sight upon returning to direct normal daylight until their eyes adjust to their surroundings. This takes 1 round to accomplish.

Initial Ability score modifiers

Based on Dwarven heartyness, Delphs gain a +1 to STR,  a +1 to CON and a +1 CHA and from their elven ancestry, but they also have a Natural -1 to DEX and a Disadvantage in the Acrobatics skill. Their DWARVEN Stubroness also gives them a -1 to intelligence, as they resist change and new knowledge must prove itself before they will tentatively accept it as truth. BUT that stubbornness also grants them an advantage in the persuasion skill, as they are very persistent and steadfast in their beliefs and acquired knowledge, which seems to be contagious with others.

This Stubbornness is tempered by their Elven ancestry, and so in personality, a Delph seems to be more calm and rational than a typical Dwarf, but there is still a smoldering underneath that outer calm that, to the more discerning and perceptive character, shows the volatile nature of the Dwarven ancestors.
