Homebrew Dead Spirit Species Details

Once a powerful magic user, a freak accident lead to your body dying, leaving behind only your spirit. In this spirit form, you can hear and see the world around you, but any other interaction is not possible. Thankfully, you are able to create yourself a body made of material around you, allowing you to once again affect the things around you.

You might be hundreds or thousands of years old, having seen the world change around you. Or you just died recently, and have only just figured out how to recreate a body for yourself to interact with the world again. This new body is not what you were used to, but you find it an acceptable substitute, until you manage to get a real body once again.

Others might first be intimidated by your form, which is a humanoid golem like appearance made up of whatever material is around you. But with enough charm, they will accept you, no matter what you look like.

Creating Your Character

If you create an Undead Spirit character, follow these additional rules during character creation.

Dead Spirit Traits

You have the following racial traits

Creature Type

You are the spirit of a long dead humanoid creature. If you concentrate, you manage to create a bipedal humanoid body made of whatever material is around you, stones, twigs and so on.

Size

You are medium.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 ft., If you are incorporal, your spirit form moves at 120 ft, ignoring everything in its way.

Magically Created Body

You are just a spirit without a body. When you concentrate (not breakabke by attacks, but you cannot use spells using concentration), you can make yourself a bipedal humanoid body. It is made up of the material around you, so earth clumps, pebbles, twigs and leaves when in a forest, bricks, scraps of rubbish, clothing and other material when in a city.

This body allows you to interact with the world around you, and allows you to speak.

This body is the height and weight of what your original body was before you died.

You have to keep rolling a d20 for concentration to keep this body, roughly every 15 minute. First, you fail on a 1, if you suceed, the DC goes up to 2 and so on. It resets after you disappear and reform. You can drop your form if you want to.

Making a new body takes 1d8 hours.

Suspended Dying

You can't really die, when you reach 0 HP and fail three death saving throws, your spirit leaves the constructed body behind and gets lost in the astral plane. After 4d100 years, you find your way back to the mortal plane.

Others can try to summon you back into the mortal plane by "stabilizing" you (the same can be achieved with three successful death saving throws). If successful, your spirit returns to the body and reforms it, though you have to be healed to gain HP, as you can't move the body before that. Healing can be achieved by using the appropriate magic or by pouring a healing potion over the body.

Spirit Body

Leaving your magically created body behind, you can move through anything at an increased speed. Your movement goes up to 120 ft, and you are immune to any nonmagical damage. You can still see and hear, but otherwise not interact with anything. You can cast spells, as long as they don't require neither a somatic, a verbal nor a material component.

Your carrying capacity is reduced to zero.

If you end your turn inside a physical object, you take 1d10 force damage.

Recreating your body is a task requiring which takes 1d8 hours.
