Homebrew Cerebrosite Species Details
The cerebrosite is a small abyssal creature adapted for swimming and feeding on the brain matter of deep sea fauna. Though not fast, it has a surprisingly powerful grip once attached to its victim as it begins methodically consuming it’s grisly feast. At some point along it’s evolutionary path, the cerebrosite developed the ability to integrate into a nervous system and use the more powerful body of its victim as a host to protect itself or migrate to new feeding grounds before it’s vessel fully succumbed to atrophy. After millennia, this trait has hyper evolved into an extremely powerful innate ability that can even sustain the life giving functions of a body for long periods of time and parse fragments of the hosts memory gleaned during the horrifying process of feeding. Without the need to evolve a more potent physical form, the cerebrosite species have a powerful intellect and the knowledge gained over the many lifetimes of it’s unfortunate mortal prey.
Cerebrosite Traits
Morbid FeastChosen Prey
Choose two creature types to benefit from Chosen Prey.
When transferring to these creatures you take half the time to adjust to the new host using Spinal Integration than you normally would.
Spinal Integration
Those who closely interact with you or perceptive individuals may notice lack of coordination, sluggishness or otherwise off-putting mannerisms for 1d6 days after taking a new host.
You receive disadvantage on dexterity and charisma checks as well as ranged and melee attacks until resolved.
Desperate Transference
You may use your action and bonus action to attempt to quickly transfer to a new host. The target of this attempt must be a viable transference host. If the target host is not of your Chosen Prey types, you will roll at disadvantage. Intelligence DC10+2(Target level).
The rushed transfer destroys all information you would otherwise learn about the victim, and they will permanently suffer the disadvantages from Spinal Integration.
Synaptic Feast
Even without a host, a cerebrosite is a formidable opponent to grapple with
Morbid Transference
To take a new host the cerebrosite must have an uninterrupted long rest and a suitable body. Due to the unpleasant nature of this process most cerebrosite that are integrated into civilized society are extremely private and secretive about the existence of the transference.
Suitable Hosts:
Must be of the same level or lower than the cerebrosite current level
Must have died within 2d6 hours of the transference
Must be a race from the Chosen Prey list
