Homebrew Astartes Species Details
The Space Marines or Adeptus Astartes are foremost amongst the defenders of Humanity, the greatest of the Emperor of Mankind's warriors. They are barely Human at all, but superhuman; having been made superior in all respects to a normal man by a harsh regime of genetic modification, psycho-conditioning and rigorous training.
Space Marines are untouched by plague or any natural disease and can suffer wounds that would kill a lesser being several times over, and live to fight again. Clad in ancient power armour and wielding the most potent weapons known to man, the Space Marines are terrifying foes and their devotion to the Emperor and the Imperium of Man is unyielding. They are the God-Emperor's Angels of Death, and they know no fear.
The Astartes are physically stronger, far more resilient and often mentally far removed from the lot of most normal Human beings. In the presence of the Astartes, most people feel a combination of awe and fear, and many cultures on the more primitive worlds simply worship them outright as demigods or angels of the God-Emperor made flesh.
Astartes Traits
Astartes share a number of traits in common with each other.Ability Score Increase
Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution and Dexterity scores increase by 1.
Astartes Weapon Training
All Astartes are drilled in the use of all manner of weaponry. You are proficient with Simple and Martial weapons.
Healing Factor
Astartes genetics allows for wounds to heal much faster and take more punishment than normal humans. You start with the 'Tough' feat.
Black Carapace
The Black Carapace implant interacts with power armor. You have proficiency with Plate and Half Plate Armor.
Gene-Seed
The Gene-Seed of an Astartes filters out poisons, toxins, and disease, and allows you to recover from near death very quickly. You are resistant to poison damage, and you have advantage on death saving throws and against being poisoned.
Natural Warrior
You have proficiency in the Athletics and Perception skills.
Durable Biology
Your advanced biology allows you to occasionally shrug off injury. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled and reduce the damage by that total. After you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Age
Astartes are functionally immortal. Some of the oldest astartes are thousands of years old.
Size
Astartes are between 7 and 8 feet tall and weigh between 350 and 600 pounds. Your size is Medium.
Powerful Build
You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 40 feet.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common.
