Homebrew Cat Species Details

An Ancient Companion

Although some may call them aloof, cats are just more understated than other animals. Cats may show affection through touch, or simple tolerance of one's presence. Cats are quick to show disapproval with their favorite weapon; claws. Cats have a long history with humanoids; almost as long as civilization itself. Cats were attracted to humanoid settlements by the presence of rodents brought there by food storage. They hunted the rodents, which coincidentally saved many humanoid food stores from spoil. Thus, humanoids and cats co-existed and eventually became companions, although there are still disagreements as to who exactly domesticated whom.

Cat Traits

Cats are known for being nimble, quick, and hardy, among other things.

Heightened Senses

Cats are adept at sniffing out information. Cats have advantage on Wisdom checks that rely on smell.

Catnap

Cats take multiple short naps throughout the day. You gain the benefits of a long rest in only four hours.

Cats are Liquid

Cats take the form of whatever container they are in while maintaining a constant volume. You may change your size from Tiny to Small or Medium at will, but a change in size must be declared at the beginning of a turn.

Nine Lives.

Cats often escape sticky situations by the skin of their teeth; some consider them so lucky they seem to have nine lives. Per long rest, you may add 1 d8 to any two non-saving rolls of your choice and you may re-roll one roll of any kind per long rest.

Darkvision and Blindsight

Their innate senses plus their whiskers allow cats to have enhanced clarity on their surroundings to a certain extent. Gain Darkvision for an unlimited amount of ft. and Blindsight for up to 10 ft.

Languages

Cats can read and understand Common (and any other humanoid languages they have managed to learn), but cannot speak or write it. Indeed cats cannot write any language due to their lack of thumbs. Cats also speak Lenganima, the language of all animals, and Felis, the language of cats. These languages have no written form and cannot be understood by most humanoids

Ability Score Changes

Cats, while nimble, are not necessarily known for their strength. Your Dexterity Score increases by 2. Your Strength score decreases by 1.
