Homebrew Aaceraack Species Details

Aaceraacks are odd haphazard-looking creatures, seemingly made from the leftover members after creation. This misshapen exterior hides a unique suite of strengths and perks, found in no other race in the world. 

Humanoid, yet Not

From an outside perspective, their body seems a haphazard mix of humanoid and animal traits. But in reality their form has a logic to it, strange though it may seem. While this overview is accurate to many, there are a variety of traits within this race. 

 They are granted a large, long head, with eyes, ears, and nose. The mouth, however, is placed in its own part, on a short stalk growing under the nose. Aaceraack jaws are robust and extremely strong, containing only a few great carnassial teeth for biting through flesh. This great head is mounted on a short neck, which connect itself to the muscular torso. Their back is much like that of a fish, forming a massive hump of pure muscle, making up over half of the being's torso volume. Their arms are short and stubby, with a few hoof-like fingers. They mostly made of bone and tendon like the legs of ungulates: This lets them pump the incredible strength of the back into these limbs. For legs they have long, knee-less stalks, making up half of their height. These legs end in broad sucker-shaped feet which allow the Aaceraack to stick to many surfaces. These limbs also provide grounding for the powerful muscles of the back, making their strength far easier to utilize. 

Their faces tend to rather unfortunate features, often bearing a massive round nose, wide-spaced bulging eyes, and long low-set ears shaped like those of a bat. Like other humanoids, they have head hair, though in the form of a mohawk running from nose to neck. The rest of the body is devoid of hair, but the back has a covering of star-shaped spines, forming a natural coat of mail. In color, their skin tend to be shades of blue. The hair ranges within red, yellow, or green, though it turns black as they age. 

Unlike other humanoids, which have male and female members, the Aaceraacks are androecious, with a male sex and a hermaphroditic sex, with no purely female forms. These two sexes could easily distinguished by size: Males are around 4ft, whereas hermaphrodites are closer to 5ft. However, there is the wrinkle of their sexes forming a continuum, with no observable gaps along the distribution of their sexual traits. 

Warmth and Wanderlust

With their odd appearance and literal spiky exterior, these beings are often misread as cold and hard. The truth is much more nuanced: Aaceraacks love to wander, never by choice staying more than a few nights in one place. When allowed to freely travel, their demeanour is friendy and jovial, with a forgiving and humorous attitude. However, when circumstances force them to stay in place for too long, their mood quickly sours, and they start to grow paranoid, irritable, and grumpy. When they are not on this downward spiral, their empathy is known to be extreme, to the point that they almost seem psychic. Some even say they are psychic, at least to some degree. 

Aaceraacks are slow to recognise malice and ill-intent, and correspondingly are slow to take up arms. Nevertheless when they are threatened, they are unrelenting, never backing down until they and their friends are safe from their attacker. 

Aaceraack Names

Aaceraack naming is a complex topic. Often, aaceraacks accrue multiple names over their life: They are given one name at their hatching, but as they move throughout the world they are often given entirely new names, which they switch between based on how they feel. Their names are vaguely gendered, but given the indistinctness of their sexes this is not much of a hard and fast rule.

Age

Aaceraack take 10 years to reach mental maturity, and a further 5 to physically mature. After this they stop aging until the age of 100, after which they quickly grow decrepit and die within 20 years.

Aaceraacks vary betwen 4ft and 5ft, depending on sex. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 20 feet.

Darkvision

Your large shining eyes gather much more light than other races. You can see in dim light within 20 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Iceproof Blood

You are resistant to damage from the cold, at the cost of a vulnerability to flame damage. 

Thorny Back

Aaceraacks' star-shaped spines form a natural coat of mail, giving them some protection level of protection against attacks. 

Sucker Feet

Your feet form sticky suckers, allowing you to walk on walls and ceilings as if they were floors.
