Homebrew Anthoric Species Details

Description

Athorics resemble humans from the neck down. They are thin to the point of being gaunt, though most wear large robes or lose-fitting clothing. Not many people have gotten the chance to take a closer look at them. 

Their head is that of some other animal. Documented thus far, the following have been observed: owl, rabbit, cat, mouse, and dog or wolf, though theorists have suggested that the type of animal may vary depending on the manor in which the Anthoric was created.

Wanderers Gather

There is one recorded instance of Anthorics gathering together in one place. As most don’t feel a strong connection to one another, finding an entire abandoned village filled with Anthorics without master was a bizarre sight to behold.

The fact that so many Anthorics were without a place must have been due to one of a few reasons: one being that a creator powerful enough to create over three dozen Anthorics died or abandoned them, or conversely, dozens of lower level magic users died, and/or abandoned their creations. Either scenario was unsettling, to say the least. 

Regardless, this village which had been abandoned a hundred years prior, was now filled with these creatures. Some even children that had been taken in and cared for by several Anthorics. Together they began repairing the town, and created an entire society based off of the idea that they have overcome their need for a given purpose.

Anthorics and Freedom

Anthorics that have, in their own words, “been freed of their duty to obey their creators” see their lives as purposeless, though not in a way you’d expect. They see this purposelessness as a reason to continue, not a reason to give up. What a wonderful word they live in, where they can do anything, without the need to follow someone else’s instructions.

Stories

Those unfortunate few who have met an Anthoric have described their behavior as stoic, stony, and calculating. Though at their initial description one might think them simple creatures, Anthorics are most definitely capable of manipulation. In fact, researchers have stated that when speaking to them, they almost feel compelled to comply, as though being acted upon by a magical force through the Anthoric’s voice.

If you come across a masked traveller, be wary. Anthorics are known for disguising their appearance in order to gain a person’s trust, only to lure them away and take them to their creator in order for them to turn more humans into Anothorics.

An Anthoric without a Creator

If it comes to pass that an Anthoric is left without a creator, wether they died, or abandoned their creation, the Anthoric is then left to find their own path in life. However, without the guiding hand of the person who formed them, they have no real way of deciding on a path to take. 

Most Anthorics that find themselves without a creator tend to stay in one place, even so much as to sit down, and never move again. Some though, just keep going. Keep walking, wandering forever looking for the purpose they lost. 

As many of these creatures were once messangers, they drift toward familiar places, post offices and inns, where they would deliver letters and take messages back to their creator.

Beings of Memory

Anthorics tend to lean towards recording either through voice or on pen and paper their memories and experiences to the point where they carry around several large books at once, having nowhere to keep these memoirs.

This is because memory is often stripped away during the process of creation, leaving the Anthoric a blank slate, and from then on retaining and creating new long term memory proves to be rather difficult. Writing things down can sometimes be the only way an Anthoric knows how to retain these new memories.

Anthoric Traits

Anthorics possess traits specific to themselves, and given to them by the magic users that created them.

Lethargic Indifference

The only thing that matters is that your creator’s wishes are carried out, by any means necessary. You cannot be frightened, and being injured does not decrease your movement speed.
