Homebrew Displacer Tabaxi Species Details
Dorthen was quietly siting at his favorite spot at the tavern, after a long day of work he loved to end the day with a few drinks, today toug was special since he had a great sale at his store not to long ago, allowing him to take a few days off, and he was going to enjoy that. The door of the tavern opened up and a tall figure came inside, Dorthen at the edge of his vision noticed a dark skined crature with pointy ears, slightly turning around just to notice a feline individual, a Tabaxi he tought imediatly returning to his beer. As the figure pased by his side Dorthen couldnt help himself to look back quickly, was he to drunk already or did that Tabaxi had two, no...three tails?. He focused his vision imediatly but the other clients got on his way as they pased by, at the time the bulky orc have gone trought his field of vision the Tabaxi was nowhere to be seen. Dorthen seemed a bit anoyed by his lack of luck, still pondering if he had had a few to many drinks when a purring voice took him out of his own mind.
- Lost something friend? - Dharten raised his face from his drink imediatly slightly starled, when did the Tabaxi managed to get so close and easily without him noticing.
- oh, n-not at all ma´am - he anwered quickly cleaning out his beard from the foam of his beer -sorry if i made you feel uncomfortable by staring...is just that...well...i might have had a few to many drinks tonight - .
The Tabaxi smiled gently, at this point Dorthen had a better view of the Tabaxi. Her fur was black as a moonless night, yet it had a lustrous shine to it, her eyes where a bright emerald green, in fact far more shiny that any other Tabaxi he had seen before, her facil features where slick and soft, for a split second he tought that, for a female Tabaxi she most likely was quite atractive - ohh and why that might be if you dont mind me asking? - she said taking a seat in front of him.
- Well ma´am...please dont laught but...for a moment when you passed by...i swear i saw you had...three tails? - The Tabaxi released a soft yet hearty laught, making the dwarf feel slightly ashamed, even dumb.
- Ohhh i se, i take you havent seen my kind very often have you? - at this Dorthen seemed a bit confused.
- Your kind?...i meen, you are a Tabaxi arent you? - he replied quickly, a bit dumfounded, at this the Tabaxi reached out to her own drink with a left hand, the right coming from inside the cloak she was wearing to put a small journal in front of her, as another left hand sudendly came from under the first one puting a quill over the journal as another right hand came out puting out a small bottle of in, from behind the cloak a tentacle came out pulling the hood back revealing her ears and head completly-
- You se friend, i do am a Tabaxi, but more specifically a Displacer Tabaxi...some just call us Displacers for short, my name its Emeraldia, a pleasure to meet you - the other tentacle came from her side reaching up close to the dwarf in a friendly maner, Dorthan took a look at his drink, then back at the Displacer, then back at his drink...if he was drunk this was the wildiest alucination he have had in a long time, reaching forward with his hand gently grabing her tentacle.
- I-i ...its a pleasured to meet you Emeraldia, my name its Dorthan...Dorthan Mystra...and now im wondering if i need more or less of this - Emeraldia laughed again as she smiled, she had the feeling this was going to be a fun night to make new friends.
From the Shadows of the Underdark the the Outside World
Not much its known from the Displacer Tabaxi, some belive they are the result of a failed experiment on the Displacer Beasts themselves, others that they are an evolution induced by a god, the only thing thats sure about them is that they resemble their more monstrous counterparts but luckily arent as vicious and malevolent than them, that unless you get on their bad side, then they are a force to be feared. Like other Tabaxi they are curious creatures, inquisitive of anything that might catch their atention, still at the same time, unlike their less "eye catching" cousins, they are recieved with precaution thanks to their very unique phisical traits, because of this adventuring Displacer Tabaxi tend to use big cloaks to hide their extra limbs and make others less wary of their presence. Displacer Tabaxi roam the broad spectrum of personalities, going from simple and kind individuals wanting to live a quiet life, to extremely vicious and vindictive individuals only interested on their own gain.
Feline Grace with a Touch of Danger
The Displacer Tabaxi, also nicknamed the "mirage feline" , "phantom cat" or simply Displacers for short, its one sight to behold. His body its covered in short lustrous jet black fur. Surprisingly troug, all Displacers display small diferences betwen each other, just like their more monstrous counterparts, they can "displace" the light around them, this makes it so each individuals fur, at the show of a source of light, and on a very close inspection shows diferent highlighted colors, in other words the Displacer fur "reflects" light in a way that gives them the slightest tones, going from green to blue to red, not every Displacer is the same, sometimes displaying more than one color altought one will need to be extremely close to notice this tones.
The Displacer stands slightly above average other races, them being slightly by half a foot at most taller than your average human. From there troug their uniqueness its displayed. At their backs, they have a pair of long barbed tentacles, on the other "hands" the Displacer has an extra pair of arms under their other one, thus making it a four limbed humanoid. At the end of each limb, the Displacer has small claws that can be used for climbing or as natural weapons, perhaps not as strong as their bigger counterparts, but usefull enought so no Displacer its caught weaponless in a pinch.
All Tabaxi are a Big Family
Displacers like all the other Tabaxi form families in small groups, generally consistent of three or four families at most wich have nomadic tendencies. When the young ones are ready they go out to the world and try to find their place on it. For the most part, and luckily most Tabaxi recieve the Displacers with open arms, for them they are just family from a diferent place...just with a few extra limbs.
Adventure, Self Discovery and a Place to Belong.
The Displacers like their less limbed cousins roam the lands for diferent reasons, hose who dont seek adventure make for great crafters, their multiple apendages allow them to work faster on a single project or two at the same time, given they are focused enought to not make a mess of watever they are doing. Those who seek the trill of adventuring find themselves on a variety of roles. From Monks overwhelming their enemies with atacks from many directions in terrifying barrages of blows, claws and tentacles, to silent and cunning rogues, taking advantage of their particularly advantageous stealth skills, to even heavily armored warriors wielding multiple weapons. Their reasons are as varied as what they seek, yet when one can pass the slightly unexpected and tentacle creature, one can find a reliable ally and friend.
Displacer Names.
Altought like all the other Tabaxi the Displacers can pick out any name they want, they have a tendency to pick out names that resemble the color of their eyes, particularly gemstones. They can be as simple as the straight out name, a slight variation of the gem in a diferent languaje or simply a wordplay trying to make it sound catchy.
Male Names: Onorix, Rubith, Aghatein, Cuarthix, Lazurite.
Female Names: Emeraldia, Garnethis, Onhoxia, Turmalinis, Diamanthis.
Male names then to end in IX, ITH and TE, while female names thend to end in IA and IS. Regardless of this, being somewhat the most common practice doesnt prevent anyone for picking out more conventional names, in the end this practices arent a rule set in stone betwen families.
