Homebrew Banished Wraith Species Details

Banished wraiths don't look any different from an ordinary person, they usually take the forms of humans or elves. However, due to their dark nature, they are usually outcast from society as most people can sense the dark part of their souls.

Wraiths are soulless, but must carry their soul in a trinket on their person at all times or revert to their true form, horrifying proof of their undead nature. However, wraiths may choose to turn off the illusion at any time, an option that many of them choose not to take as they only want to be accepted by the world since they aren't accepted by the afterlife.

Banished Wraith Traits

idk

Undead Nature

Undead are immune to poison damage and are resistant to necrotic damage. They are also immune to the poisoned condition. Undead do not have to sleep, eat, drink or breathe, although they accrue fatigue levels as normal.

Player character undead count as being both undead and humanoid creature type for all purposes.

Arcane Senses

Undead are immune to the blinded and deafened conditions, and have infinite range darkvision.

Undead Resilience

If damage reduces an undead to 0 hit points and you are in your original form (for example are not wildshaped or subject to the spells polymorph, true polymorph or shapechange) you must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of half the damage taken or ten (whichever is higher) unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, you drop to 1 hit point instead.

Terror Screech

3 times per day you may, as an action, perform a Terror Screech- one creature within fifteen feet of you which can hear you must make a wisdom save against your spell save DC (if you have no spell save DC then the DC is instead equal to ten plus your proficiency bonus plus your charisma modifier). If the creature fails it becomes frightened of you, and can repeat the save at the end of each of its following turns, ending the effects on a successful save. If the target fails the saving throw by 5 or more, it is also paralyzed for the same duration. A target that succeeds on the saving throw is immune to your Terror Screech for the next 24 hours.

Wraith Form

Starting at 3rd level, you can use your action to transform into a ghostly form, this causes you to turn into a form of indescribable horror. The instant you transform, other creatures within 10 feet of you that can see you must each succeed on a Charisma saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or become frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

  • Your transformation lasts for 1 minute or until you end it as a bonus action. During it, once on each of your turns, you can deal extra necrotic damage to one target when you deal damage to it with an attack or a spell. The extra necrotic damage equals your level.
  • Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
