Homebrew Born Therianthrope Species Details

Therianthropes, better known as lycanthropes, have been outcast from society at large as a curse upon the world. While that may be true for those infected by bite or blood, a true born therianthrope has more control of themselves to the point they can even keep their bite and blood from cursing others although they may tend to be more animalistic in their personalities. Born therianthropes tend to like living in small clans in the wilderness where they can find balance between man and the beast.

Appearance

Therianthropes don’t differ much from their parents, whatever their original race may be, other than being a bit more hairy and muscular than average. As well as the possibility of having yellow or red eyes.

Lifespan

Therianthropes tend to live slightly longer than their seeming race. For example a human therianthrope would live 15 to 20 years longer as well as be physically able for nearly all their life. 

Environment

Most naturally born therianthropes live in clans in an environment suitable to their beast form. For example a forest for a bear or a swamp for a alligator. Some though, are born with only their parents or parent like them around, and if the parent is cursed rather than naturally born there can be a difference in opinion about the beast blood. Some parents may actually find a cure for their curse if they were infected, but a naturally born therianthrope can only shed their beast blood with a wish spell. Usually these parents see their child as an abomination and abandon them for fear of being cursed again.

Exploration and Adventure

With the strength and toughness they naturally have therianthropes have a easier time with adventuring although they tend to be either solitary or only adventure with clan members or people they truly trust. Most are born hunters as well making it natural to go after creatures and bandits as a mercenary. This also gives them reason to shift into their beast forms away from judging eyes where it’s power can be of use.

You were born with an ancient curse flowing through your veins, granting you various abilities.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1

Age

Therianthropes age at the same rate as their apparent race and live slightly longer. A human therianthrope for example may live an extra 15 to 20 years.

Size

Therianthropes can be born to any race. Choose your size appropriately, either Medium or Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. Beast form increases your speed by 10 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Hearing and Scent.

You have proficiency in the Perception skill. You have advantage on hearing and smell checks.

Shifting

You have the ability to shift into your beast or hybrid forms or back to your normal form as a bonus action at will. Your equipment is absorbed into your form as a animal, and can be absorbed, or worn in your hybrid form.

Hybrid

• You gain resistance to non-magical slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning damage.
• You become vulnerable to silvered weapons.
• You gain claws and a bite that can be used as natural weapons that deal 1d8+ your strength modifier. Martial arts does effect this damage.

Animal

• You get +10 to your movement speed while in animal form.
• You cannot speak or use objects that require the use of hands, therefore you can’t use spells that require verbal or somatic components.
• You gain a bite attack that can be used as a natural weapon that deals 1d8+ your strength modifier. Martial arts does effect this damage. 

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language. Usually dependent on your apparent race.
