Homebrew Cloustran Species Details
“Wh-what was that thing? It was like a... like a talking cloud?!"
"Oh, him? He's the co-pilot. Real nice guy, you should challenge him to a game of Sahrotik sometime."
"B-but how does he live? How does he talk with no mouth? What happened to him?!"
"I take it you haven't met a Cloustran before then. You'll get used to him in no time, I promise."
Little is known about the inhabitants of the distant planet of Cloust, but they are still widely known for just how much they seem to defy biology. Relatively new to the galactic highway, Cloustrans still generate feeling of wonder, curiosity and fear wherever they go. However, galactic civilization is not made with people who's bodies are made up of 82% gas in mind. And thus, they still struggle to fit in and find work suited for them. They are the rookies of the galaxy, and every day their presence gets more known.
The third state of matter
An average Cloustran is unlike any other sentient being. 82% of their body is made up of various gases, with the remaining 18% being two clusters of organs and soft tissue located where their stomach and head would be. Said clusters are protected by durable skin tissue and serve the functions of sustaining the gas, processing information and functioning as a core for stability. The gases generally takes the shape of a ghastly humanoid with arms, a head and a torso, but not legs. This enables them to hover above ground and interact with physical objects by consciously solidifying their "hands". They can form the shapes of hair or other body parts if they so desire, and even alter their size briefly by accumulating gas around them. Cloustrans can even accumulate gas to heal themselves, and depending on the gas they can take on a multitude of different colours.
Wanderers of wonder
Cloustrans are still an uncommon sight. Most of them are found on their home planet of Cloust, and those who have left and entered the final frontier are fairly spread out. Most of them are wanderers, but some have found work as pilots, soldiers or smugglers. Most commonly though, they end up at some smaller establishment on one of the capital planets. There are only about 12 000 000 Cloustrans roaming the galaxy, so if you run into one it's probably your lucky day.
Most space-faring Cloustrans are very curious and impressionable, since they still know so little about the galaxy. The majority of them are naive and helpful by nature. If you end up befriending a Cloustran, odds are that you've made a friend for life.
