Homebrew de-Yuan Species Details

De-Yuan are an ophidian hybrid people who first sought worlds unknown and found more than they could ever imagine. Having cast aside their ancestral lust for empire, a clan of yuan-ti ventured beyond the stars to become the de-Yuan people. These first de-Yuan, known as the First Brood, were guided by their desire for harmony and communal excellence as they integrated into new worlds. This hybrid race now live along side many other humanoid races wherever life may be found. Depending on their lineage, de-Yuan may retain a broad spectrum of serpent features, although true hybridization is seen as a sign of health. No matter where they go, the de-Yuan people are driven by family and community, taking much pride in where they come from. Despite their snake-like appearances, it is not uncommon for de-yuan to be known for both their emotion forward and rather expressive personalities.

Adaptable by Nature

In stark contrast to those in the Yuan-Ti empire, the de-Yuan do not seek to dominate the other humanoid races but to live along side them. Unlike the Yuan-ti Purebloods who had strict social castes and a singular drive to grow their empire, de-yuan are found throughout all walks of life. Born of one or more de-yuan parents, no two de-Yuan are alike in appearance or ambition.

Having shed their resistance to magic and no longer plagued by the castes of their ancestors, the de-Yuan found genetic freedom. Each de-yuan may take on one or perhaps a few specific traits of of any non-de-yuan family. A child of goblin and de-yuan parents may take on the short stature and large ears of their goblin parent along with their de-yuan parent's slitted pupils. De-yuan who spend decades among other humanoid races may acquire some physical characteristics of their loved ones with each year's molting. A well traveled de-yuan may have tusks, long ears, or even a pseudopod in addition to any natal features. However a de-Yuan looks, they have the power to pursue great good or evil .

Hybrid Pride

De-Yuan merchants and tradesmen are welcomed across borders of many kinds; it is not uncommon for de-Yuan to forge deep bonds with other humanoids, be it in business or in matter of the heart. Although they are highly renowned traders of goods, they are known to trade . Wherever they go de-yuan seek to strengthen the civilizations they encounter. Depending on their lineage, de-Yuan may keep strong serpent features or nearly none at all. It is seen as a sign of trust and safety for a de-yuan to have traits of people they are closest to.

De-Yuan have a strong sense of pride in their communities and many are quick to flaunt their adaptations. They may adorn themselves in piercings or cuts of clothing to accentuate their unique features, especially after entering adulthood. Their pride in adaptability shows not only through their hybridized characteristics but also through the use of communal names which are shared among all de-yuan in a subrace. (Suggestion: Communal names are most often a composite of two or more races. Children of de-yuan and dwarf parents would carry the communal name "Yuan-Dwa" in addition to their personal and surname.)
