Homebrew Draculus Species Details
"My people, you call "vampires." Why is this? Have we done anything to you? Have we invaded your kingdoms wielding flaming pitchforks and steak? Do we celebrate a holiday for getting rid of evil, including your species? What have we done, other than consensually feeding on your people's blood when asked... And even then, my people are attacked. We cannot contain our thirst any longer. I am afraid... That in ten millenium, when the enchanted scroll with our agreement disintegrates, my people will seek your people out and maim them if this goes on. You, and your people, are monsters. Please, all I ask, is that you dispel the rumours of blood-sucking bats, ancient coffin sleeping, and death to heat and light... Or your end shall arrive."
-- Queen Arcturia; 10,000 years ago
A once thriving race, the Draculus have nearly all but vanished. Their last proper city, Ominaevia, was the largest and centred by the Ancient Palace; it fell to ruin 10,000 years ago along with the relic containing the power source of the Draculus. It is thought the Draculus are extinct, but numerous sightings have been reported throughout recorded historical documents. What is generally agreed on, however, is that they were menacing, brutal, and malicious. They were a people who drained the blood of other species, but for some reason they only did so with humans, as long as the human consented to sharing his or her blood. This conundrum means that they had a structured society with morals and laws, and may have at one point been under the lawful neutral alignment. For whatever reason, the agreement between the Draculus and the Humans disintegrated ten thousand years before expiration; erupting into a violent and devastating war that resulted in the genocide and a more chaotic mentality of the Draculus. From a lawful shift to chaotic, modern Draculus are often rogues and drain humans to the point of painful death in alleyways. Their once great power has now been reduced to less than half, and the only spells they are able to cast are those dealing with shadows and darkness.
Ancient Allure
The Draculus are said to be one of the most beautiful races to have lived. They were often tall with slim builds, and their faces were about perfectly symmetrical with light, pale skintones. They often decorated themselves with tattoo stripes, especially the females, and their hair whitened the longer they lived their ~600 year-long lifespan; from being born with void black hair to a shining, starry silver, and finally a captivating flowing white; and it turned white under sun exposure as well. Their skin was said to have a slight star-like appearance in light. Their size is medium, and they range in height measuring 5 3/4 feet to 6 1/2 feet.
Controllers of Darkness
The Draculus wield the ability of dark magic, wielding solid shadows and transforming them into complicated shapes, like weapons, animals, and illusions.
Draculus are said to be able to communicate with darkness, knowing what's happening around them in the shadows. Their powers and senses are also heightened during the night and especially during the new moon.
Blood Bond Rituals
Similar to human marriage, bonded Draculus can choose to do a ritual in which they fuse their blood on a new moon. This creates an almost psychic connection between them, and is thought to create an emotional bond between them.
Draculus generally have multiple blood bonds, and they also blood bond with their close friends.
Predators of the Night
Draculus drain blood from humans. They do so at night, generally using their dark power, and legends of vampires have emerged from the history of the Draculus. They often stalk cities and areas crawling with humans, striking when their prey least expects it.
They are able to see slightly in the dark using their sense of touch to know what is around them.
A Stoic Gaze
Draculus are often near-emotionless. They hold no empathy or compassion and often seem cold, inconsiderate, and callous in the view of outsiders.
Draculus Names and Bloodlines
Thousands of years of culture developed the Ancient Draculus to their potential. Notable names were among the most common.
Their names have no meaning, they are often cryptic and dark-sounding, often making one shudder upon hearing them.
Still, some are named after other mysterious things, such as known stars, constellations, mythical beasts, or legendary subjects of stories meant to scare human children.
Haunte & Ombrumme Bloodlines
The "true" Draculus Bloodline consists of those of relativity to Haunte and Ombrumme blood, or the very first Draculus royal families. Their names are often regal but dark, often with hisses in their pronunciation. They have the most power of all the Draculus, but are often cold and distant in personality. Ask your DM if it is possible to have a Draculus of this type.
