Homebrew Tabaxismol Species Details

The Tabaxismol are a smaller, more catlike version of their Tabaxi cousins. They share the Tabaxi curiosity to collect things, may it be artifacts, stories, or anything it finds value in. They are born travelers, roaming around, looking for adventures. They leave no stone un-turned.

Tabaxismol are bipedal and have hand-like paws just as their cousins do. They are able to handle objects and weapons as capably as any humanoid of small stature. Their shorter life, around 60 years, tends to encourage them to live life to the fullest and enjoy as much as they can during their time. This can lead Tabaxismol to being cheerful and possibly even reckless in their quest for knowledge and life experiences. On the other hand, a few Tabaxismol grow to be jealous of the longer-lived races. Becoming aloof or even disgruntled as they keep to themselves and contemplate life. These Tabaxismol tend to feel that there is no real point in socializing and make friends.

Wanderers:

Tabaxismol are more solitary then their Tabaxi cousins. Some content to travel alone, others may live in small clans, roaming where the hunting is plentiful and adventures abound. On occasion, an adventuring Tabaxismol may be drawn toward people of other races. Some out of curiosity, others just thinking a group will bring more adventures their way. A Tabaxismol of this nature may bond to a particular party member (or even find the whole group fascinating) and be inclined travel with them indefinitely.

Lore Seekers:

Even though the Tabaxismol are driven to collect things, they still hold more value to knowledge, stories, and lore over material things. Even when they are hunting for ancient relics, magical items, and other rare objects,  they are more driven by the desire to unravel its mysteries, learning its history and how it is used, rather then its monetary value. They may even spend time in taverns and other busy places, picking up rumors and stories to satisfy their desire for more knowledge when there is nothing else better to do.

Fleeting obsessions:

Like their larger cousins, the Tabaxismol are obsessive. They can fixate on a particular task, item, or piece of lore and once all secrets are discovered or memorized, they will drop that obsession for another.

Entertainers:

Some Tabaxismol prefer a safer path in life, leading to a life of a traveling troupe of entertainers. Playing music, singing, dancing, and telling stories of great adventures, lore, and histories that they have gathered throughout their travels. These Tabaxismol usually travel in small groups of 4-6 members, sometimes even accepting members of other races into their troupe. Their smaller size makes them attract more attention then their larger cousin in this way of life. They are oddities, other races may see them as large domesticated cats who learned to live as the intelligent races do.

Names:

The Tabaxismol do not have as complex of a naming system as the Tabaxi. They have a given name, one that their friends and family use and they have a secret personal name, that they choose for themselves. Solitary Tabaxismol may even end up forgetting their given name. Those that are driven to travel with others may pick up new names or nicknames, given to them by their companions. Some Tabaxismol, who maintain a family group or are part of a traveling group of entertainers/adventurers. may take on a clan/family name to further strengthen their bond.

Personalities:

Tabaxismol can have obsessions and quirks. The obsession should be changed/re-rolled every few days or when an obsession is met or satisfied to reflect the ever-changing curiosity of the Tabaxismol.

Age

You reach maturity at 10 years, and can live, on average, up to 60 years.

Size

Tabaxismol are slightly larger then domestic cats. When standing upright, they range from 2 - 3 feet tall. They can stretch out their legs to gain a few inches, or lose a few inches by lowering their stance to stand flatfooted instead of on their toes.

Their weight is 20-50 pounds.

Speed

When walking upright, your speed is 25 ft. When taking on a quadrupedal stance from the Just Another Cat trait, your speed increases to 40 ft.

Your Cat's Claws Smol trait grants you a climb speed of 30 ft.

Darkvision

You have a cat's keen senses, especially in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Feline Agility

Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed. When you move on your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns.

Cat's Claws Smol

Because of your claws, you have a climbing speed of 30 feet. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 2 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier (finesse), instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Just Another Cat

You can disguise yourself as an ordinary domestic cat, albeit larger then your typical house-cat. Choosing to fully hide, you may even disrobe; and as long as you don't reveal yourself by talking, standing upright, or doing some other un-catlike activity,  you will be viewed and treated like any other cat would in that area. Even remaining clothed, you can pass off as a pet to an owner who likes to dress them up. When you are on all-fours you get a speed boost and can move at a speed of 40 ft.

Land on Your Feet

You can treat any fall as if it were 10 feet less than the actual distance of the fall. For example, if you fall 20 feet, take only 1d6 points of damage (treating it as a 10-foot fall). A fall of 10 feet or less does not harm you. If you take no damage from a fall, you will always lands on your feet. If you take damage from a fall, you land on your feet if you makes a successful Acrobatics (Dexterity) save (DC = the damage taken by the fall).
