Homebrew Curse of the Chimera Species Details

Those afflicted by the curse of the Chimera are fundamentally changed from whatever their physical form used to be. Their minds remain the same, but their legs become hooved, pawed, or taloned, they grow tails, clawed hands, fur or feathers, wings that may be avian or leathery, monstrous eyes, sometimes even horns or antlers. The only parts about them that resemble who they used to be is the humanoid shape and only most of the face.

The minds of those afflicted do not change. They are the same people, but in new, transmogrified bodies. To have been cursed this way, they must have angered something of great power, such as a devil, archfey, or even a god. The animal parts they are now made up of are animals that were familiar to the person, creatures that they had seen with their own eyes and touched with their own hands. Animals they had as pets, hunted, or simply saw often in the world around them. Because of this, no two Chimeras are truly the same.

Most Chimeras search for a way to break or reverse their curses so that they may return to the lives they once lived. At worst, they are ostracized and outcasted, at best, treated as curiosities and oddities. They find it incredibly difficult to meld with whatever society they find themselves in.

Curse of the Chimera Traits

No one starts out a Chimera

Wings

The curse has given you a set of large and unwieldly wings. The appearance of these wings may be avian, leathery, or insectile, but they sprout from between your shoulders and are large and string enough to carry you into the air, but deal poorly with small spaces or elegance.

Hoof and Claw

Your legs are no longer human but animal-like. They may be feathered, hooved, scaled, pawed, or taloned, but they resemble those of an animal you once knew.

Dentistry

Your teeth have glacially grown through your soft, mangled jaw into new shapes. They are mostly comprised of canines and fangs now.

Darkvision

Due to the curse changing your eyes, you know have the ability to see up to 60ft around you in nonmagical darkness.

Talons

Your hands have grown a set of talons for each fingertip, the appearance of which resembles an animal you have known, but varies.
