Homebrew Boggart Species Details
Boggart
Tricksters and Pranksters
Boggarts enjoy pranks, practical jokes, riddles, and many other types of harmless mischief. Light hearted and with positive, yet wary, attitudes they enjoy the company of any travellers that come through their territory.
Gaze of Ancestors
They believe that the souls of the dead permanently reside where their body rests, protecting the living from bad luck and evil spirit.
Hospitable Swampfolk
Boggarts live in clans led by their elders. Their fellow members of the clan are referred to as cousins if they are about the same age, while their younglings are called nephews and nieces, and the elders are known as uncles and aunties. They are hospitable to other goblinoids, but will not hesitate to defend their clans if the outsider brings violence. However boggarts are wary of non-goblinoid outsiders, due to other races existing preconceptions of goblinoids.
Exiles and Explorers
Most boggarts that travel away from their homes are often exiles, and treated as a clanless outsider, never allowed to keep their clan names. The other type of travelling boggarts are explorers who wish to see the world and bring back stories, skills, or experiences for the clan to learn from and better the life of the newer generations.
Boggart Names
Boggart names are ridiculously varied, some even have origins from other races. The names within boggart society are not related to their sex regardless of origin. Boggart clan names carry history with it, as each syllable in the clans' names tells a part of their past, and as such the older the clan the longer the name. For example, “ark” means that the clan has made an exodus, and “drog” means the clan survived an attack from a dragon. The oldest of clans can have many hundreds of syllables, often earning nicknames by nearby villages to identify them more easily.
