Homebrew Beaver-folk Species Details

Beaver folk: small  beavers who have evolved to a higher existence. They are found in small - medium communities in underground towns. They commonly live along side Otter-folk, Water Voles, Muscrats and Minks. They have adapted to be able to converse, despite not speaking common, their high charisma and communication skills allows them to be understood without the other even realising they are not speaking a known language. Mostly speaking in whines and grunts, while infants or "kits" communicate in mews, squeaks and cries. Tail slapping is used to notify others of danger and is primarily used by adults.

Semi- Aquatic: Beavers enjoy basking in and out of water. Usually they stay close to a constant source of water and make grand hot springs.

Castes and Colors. Beavers usually mate for life to a certain extent, they believe in fate. If a beaver was to lose their mate, they will not look for another, but if one happens to appear, they will deem it to be a act of fate and accept them as their monogamic life mate. This new mate will accept any current kits of their new partner as their own as well. Households can usually be made up of large families, sometimes up to 12 members. Small households are rare and often subject to judgement within the community.

Each Beaver is placed in a certain caste, and are given "colours", most common in the form of hoods, scarfs or gloves. Green are the tribe’s warriors, hunters, and laborers, and the blue group works as artisans and in other domestic roles in the colony. Supervising and guiding both groups are the purple group, which serve as administrators and commanders.

Red are the tribe’s scholars and magic users. They are superior to purple, blue, and green. They are also given proper respect even by Beavers of higher status.

Higher castes include orange, which are elite warriors that have authority over all lesser warriors, and gold, which hold the highest leadership positions. A tribe’s sovereign is always a gold.

A Beaver normally remains in its caste for life. On rare occasions, an individual that distinguishes itself with great deeds can earn an invitation to join a higher caste. Castes are not formed by birth or parental caste, and are set once a kit comes of age.

All Beavers have both a community responsibility as well as household position. While castes define the beaver in the community, at home, all beavers are generally equal. Unless there is a gold or Orange Beaver. Authority in the household is usually defined by parental figures or older (and therefore wiser) individuals.
