Homebrew Batlix Species Details

(version 17 notes: you can be small or medium!)

"There was a strange hooded figure walking down the road, I couldn't see his face until he was bumped by a hurrying man. The hood was knocked off and for a second I saw a bat like face before he put his hood back down, slipping away"-Wran birchsmile, elf paladin.

The batlix are very rare and when they are near people often don't notice because they often are wearing a hooded cloak so that their face is concealed, though if they are bumped you might glimpse a furry, winged, arm or a bat face but no more.

small and smart

kind and welcoming, but also timid and shy, batlix are mostly a peaceful race that live in small villages deep in forests and caves, keeping out of wars and other big events. known for their craftsmanship and art skills, the batlix are expert carvers, painters, tinkerers, and writers. Their fur can be shades of grey, tan, black, and brown, though as they get older it will start to tinge gold. This is a sign of wisdom and intelligence in batlix society. very short standing at most only 3 to 4 feet tall and weigh 40 to 45 pounds, their arms are like a bats arms except they have two extra fingers with the thumb. They have wingspans that are as long as their arms and will have hands with small claws at the end. their facial features can look like many different bat species and are different between villages. batlix have short legs and are faster flying than walking so when traveling with supplies they will often teak take a horse drawn cart.

rare forest dwellers

Batlix first appeared when the bat demon cama zotz tried to change regular bats into monsters, similar to what yeenoghu did with gnolls, but the bat god, chiropterran (ki-rop-teh-ran) noticed this and saved them from that fate and transformed them into the batlix. Living up to 200 years old, batlix are a long lived race. They also value family very much and will live with their parents until adulthood which comes around age 20. batlix can be very aggressive if their family is involved and will attack ferociously if they are in danger. they will often train small bats and giant bats as pets and messengers.

modest villages

the batlix live in small villages deep in the woods or in large caverns. often they will be near elf or dwarf villages, and will sometimes get resources that they don't have from nearby villages. elves are not fond of batlix as they think that they are still what cama zotz intended so will not pay much attention to them or give them outright hatred. dwarfs don't mind batlix and will trade with them as they would with any other race. other races don't fully know that batlix exist, but have heard story's about them.
