Homebrew Chiropteran Species Details

Creatures of the Night

No one is truly certain where the Chiropteran came from, some say they are creature created by an evil god to corrupt this world, others say that they are the departed spirits of evil people, cursed to wander the earth once more in freakish looking bodies and forced to atone for deeds they don't even remember and even more think that they are the abominable cross between bat-like demons and dragons. Regardless of where they came from, the Chiropterans are undoubtedly a race of creatures who've made the night their own, with their abilities to hide and creep throughout as bats

Beast-like and Proud

The Chiropteran is a bat-like humanoid with very pronounced ears, thumb-sized fangs (by human standards) and claw like wings. Their bodies are covered in thin, soft fur that ends at their feets, hands and face much like a typical bat. The fur on their body varies in color, although it's usually always a kind of dark color that isn't easily seen in darkness, however the fur on their bellies is often a much lighter color than the rest of them. They also seem to have a long prehensile tail, that they use to cling onto cave ceilings, tree branches and rooftops. When compared to a human, the Chiropteran stands almost a foot taller than them on average, standing to 7 feet on average and weighing around 180 lbs.

Should one ever look directly in their face, they would see the Chiropteran's ears take a majority of the size of their head, with their eyes and fangs coming in second. Those with smaller ears and fangs are usually mistaken for weasel-like mutants or worst yet-, vampires, but Chiropterans don't mind people making this mistake: it just makes it easier for them to get what they want.

Lonesome Tribes

The Chiropterans have rather tribal societies, manifesting from their desire to follow their own paths in life and ignoring the wants and wishes of the more civilized societies. These "tribes" are nothing more than large families that occasionally mingle with outsiders, usually for selfish reasons. These families are led by a patriarch with many wives. Although most of the family members try to be civil and lawful, most if not all of these families seem to have connections to various criminal underworlds, cults and other unsavory enterprises for one reason or another, making a Chiropteran's life almost inevitably involved in crime in one form or another.

Throughout this crime festered life, most Chiropterans have become shunned by society at large, even if said Chiropteran has never committed a crime before. This more often than not prompts them into a cycle of never ending criminal lifestyles, enhanced by their already monstrous appearance and above average physical capabilities.

Chiropteran Names

Chiropteran names are a strange thing. While most of them seem to have rather ordinary names derived from a mixture of Infernal and Draconic dialect, Chiropterans seem to adopt an alias regardless of whether they have a criminal background or not. This "third name" is as they call it, their true name, the one that reveals who they really are and what they see as important in their lives... or maybe they just take these names to scare people and make fun of others. These names often just sound like a title given by a mad king. Chiropterans also have family names, inherited from their long family bloodlines.
