Homebrew Atian Species Details

Anurgur, the final embodyment of the God Ateus fell, killed by the forces of the Goddess Uena. With him died the Atian reclusion in the marshes of Izune. Without the power of the now dead god, the Atians had to strike back out into the mainland and find a new purpose.

For all my life, I had known that this day would eventually come. We, as a people, could not protect the God forever. Very few listened to my warnings and when Anurgur fell the elders had no plan. We were now in a position where we had to find our own way in a world without gods. The elders argued over the path forward while the people they now ruled floundered and panicked. Many had believed that the day of the God's death would not happen, and those same people now had to forge forward in a world with no godly guidance. The entire culture of my people had been uprooted and discarded yet all the elders did was argue among themselves, oblivious to their people's plight.

This is when I stepped in to guide my people. I took the mantel left by Anurgur and pushed my people to the edge of the marshes and beyond.

Born of the God Ateus, as their name proclaims, the Atians walk proudly through a world that greets them with fearful incomprehension. Shaped by a powerful diety in his image of the perfect race they combine the grace of the Sylvians and the power of the Orci with the intelligence of humans. Most Atians are faithful servants to Ateus's ideals, others form the ranks of soldiers in human armies, and still others find themselves adrift, with no clear calling in life.

Proud Atian Culture

Atians are vastly different in appearance from one another. They can choose their own body at certain stages of life, as long as they stick to certain criteria dermined by Ateus on their creation. The first is that they must be bipedal, and the second is that they must retain an certain muscle mass to guarentee their strength and agility. All Atians are born of the shape of one of their parents, normally the mother. The first chance a Atian gets the alter their body is their 10th birthday. There are three other opertunities. One on the 20th Birthday, one of the 50th birthday and one on the 150th birthday. These days are biologically set and an atian will spend the entire day locked in a solitary room to undergo their change. Most atians choose to bless themselves with camoflagued skin and hardened nails to act as weapons in case they find themselves unarmed. A large number of ancient Atians chose tree like figures to help blend into their swamp homeland. This has changed since the end of the Great war of the Gods, with many now choosing shapes which help them fit more into human society. The one feature they cannot change is there eyes which are pure black with a bright red iris. This feature is unique to Atians and helps other races identify them.

The blood of the first Atian runs very strong through the race as a whole. This blood carries small parts of the power of Ateus himself who imparted all of his power into his creations, killing himself in the process. This gives the atians a strong proficeny for learning magic and a close connection to other religous beings.

Self-Sufficient

To any dragonborn honouring the memory of Ateus comes above all else. Despite the last true embodyment dying, the blood which each of them hold carries the God's memory forward. Their devotion breeds belief in their superiority and right to rule the other races, as was Ateus' belief upon his death. Since rejoining the world of men many Atians have become powerful and influencial in their communities. Some have set up their own dwellings inside the lands of men, prompting conflict and anomosity between races.

A continual drive for self-improvement reflects the self-sufficiency of the race as a whole. Atians value skill and excellence in all endeavors. They hate to fail, and they push themselves to extreme efforts before they give up on something. An Atian holds mastery of a particular skill, or the completion of a worthy goal, as a lifetime goal. Members of other races who share the same commitment find it easy to earn the respect of a Atian, although this respect does not negate the feeling of superiority.

Though all Atians strive to be self-sufficient, they recognize that help is sometimes needed in difficult situations. But the best source for such help is other Atians, and when an Atian needs help, it turns to other Atians before seeking aid from other races.

Atian numbers are small compared to that of the humans or orci, but there increased lifespan and direct connection to a diety helps to nulify this. They are highly intelligent and tend to quickly establish themselves as important beings in the world.

Race Wars

Atians are an ancient race, created before all others bar the Sylvians. In there early days the Atians and Sylvians would fight and kill over nearly anything. This anomosity and suspicion has contunied through the ages and to this day. It is very rare to see an Atian and a Sylvian socialising, or even sharing a room. This rivalry extends further than ancient wars. Both the Atians and the Syvlians have one major similarity. They are both very closey connected to a diety. The Atians were created by Ateus to dominate and rule Izune, while the Sylvians were created by Ritdona to protect life on Izune. The direct conflict of motivation from the two gods directly feeds into a biological hatred between the two races which few can overlook. They are opposites by their very nature, from their conception and creation.

The Atians also share anomosity with Orci. This is far less biological and more a historical grudge which is more widely observed by the Orci. Ancient Atians, using the power of Ateus which was far more powerful then, created the Orci to help them defeat the Sylvians in their war for Izune. The orci were used and front line soilders and general slaves. Over time the Orci evolved and gained a level of sentience which they had not had upon their creation. This sentience pales when compared to modern Orci, who are more individual and intelligent, but it was enough to cause the Orci to revolt and flee to the mountains which became their homeland for thousands of years. Some Orci find comfort in returning to serve Atians while others hate them for their enslavment, and everything in between.

Atian relations with humans are more positive than their relationships with the other two main races of Izune. There is some level of anomosity but it is on a much more person to person scale than with other races. Most humans have happily accepted the return of Atians to the continent and look to their wisdom and intelligence to solve problems which human leaders cannot.

Atian Names

Dragonborn have personal names given at birth and all Atian names are unisex. Most Atians strive to achieve a title given to them by their kin. These titles revolve around a great achievement or skill which they posses. Most Atians will have achieved at least one title by their third change, or hundreth birthday, and this title will shape the way they form their next body.
