Homebrew Android Species Details
Androids were created in the year 4400 AC by the Coalition. Originally, they were created with the explicit purpose of acting as a jack of all trades type race. They were a breakthrough in the theory dividing consciousness and the soul. Made to be everything from soldiers, to doctors and surgeons, to that of child caregivers. Their expertise is unparalleled by living lifeforms.
An android can look like any humanoid form that their creator/company wished for them to resemble, although the most common is a human like form. This is not to necessarily mean they all look robotic in appearance, although most do. The newest 4500XRT models however, can pass incredibly well as their creator's desired race resemblance. Some may be jarred and shocked, even hostile to androids depending on their history and circumstance. As mentioned before, the Coalition made androids in part to be warriors and soldiers. If you were an unlucky planetary settler who was on the receiving end of an android squadron, you would know how deadly first hand an organized android unit can be. Some groups believe that the most 'human' (or other race) appearing androids are secretly spies working to unravel and corrupt society, not to be trusted as the saying goes: Trust not what can't bleed for you
Like other construct races, androids can live for an exceptionally long time. Most androids, if they keep their fusion cores well taken care of, can live for up to 1,000 years
Warforged and the Droidforged
It's a common misconception in the Wildspace to think that the Androids (sometimes nicknamed the Droidforged) are the same as the Warforged or other general robots. The two groups share distinct similarities in their reasons for creation as one can imagine, but there does lie a difference. The warforged tend to present themselves in an obvious way, they do not hide their mechanical bodies. Androids can be the same, but the latest models tend to resemble humanoids so well they cannot initially be told apart from their living counterparts.
The other biggest difference between these two races is that warforged have souls while androids do not. Warforged exist due to the discovery and harnessing of a magical energy called The Spark of Life. The Spark is still used to create warforged to this day (although in extremely low numbers). Androids came about by purely technological advancements in the Wildspace. Does this mean that androids can't feel emotions or comprehend beings who have souls? Not at all! Androids that have been set free, either by radical liberator groups, or by choice of their creator, can understand and grow emotional attachments. Although this may take time to develop, androids can eventually live normal solitary, or social lives. In some societies, local communities may never even know their neighbor who always brings the most delicious deviled eggs to events is actually a peaceful android.
Android Traits
You have the following racial traits.Remote Hacking
Whether you were made to be a peacekeeper, a spy, or a soldier, you have the innate ability to hack into electronic computer systems (such as security cameras, turrets, locked electronic doors etc...). In order to remote hack, you must make a Sleight of Hand check (using either Dexterity or Intelligence) to hack into a system that is within 30 feet of you. Failing this check more than once could activate firewall and security measures. When you make this check, you are considered Proficient in this skill.
If you succeed on the check, you can use your Bonus Action to carry out an action related to the kind of system you have taken over. This is not an expansive list by any means, the DM can help you in choosing what actions you can now take thanks to your successful attempt
(Single) Turret System: You can use the newly taken over turret to make an Attack action using the turret's stats and modifiers
Security Camera System: You are able to view remote security cameras located in a local network that the DM specifies
Locked Doors: You are able to open and close/lock previously closed off doors
Remote Ship Piloting: You are able to move a ship or vehicle that you can hack into so long as it is in working condition and is not destroyed. You can move the vehicle equal to up to its full movement to a space it can inhabit. It cannot pass through friendly unit tiles due to its vehicle nature
Confidential File System: You are able to hack into and obtain high level access to restricted information. You can ask what some of the data holds to gain insight or an advantage in terms of knowledge based on what the file system holds and where you began the hacking.
