Homebrew Bear Species Details

Bears are a common sight on the material plane. There are many types of bears. There are brown bears, black bears, grizzly bears, and even more exotic bears. Bears love fish and berries and climbing trees. Occasionally, the gods will smile on a particular bears and give it the gift of intellect. These bears often find ways to distinguish themselves from their more simple brethren. They adorn themselves with eccentric hats or scarves. They will often find themselves in the company of great heroes and go down in the annals of history as great adventurers themselves.

Claws

Your powerful paws harbor claws of incredible destructive power, which you can use to make an unarmed strike. If you hit with it you deal 2d6 + your strength modifier slashing damage instead of the regular bludgeoning damage from unarmed attacks.

Animalistic Nature

Bears capable enough to fight and travel among hero's are quite rare, and for good reason. Bears in the wild are naturally protective and suspicious predators slow to trust. They will not hesitate to attack those who threaten them. This is still true for bears who have been given the gift of reason. Whenever you are hit with a melee or ranged weapon attack, you must make a DC 13 intelligence saving throw or use your reaction to make a Claw attack against a random adjacent creature.
