Homebrew caisraetl Species Details
caisraetlal are a race of humanoid creatures that roamed about the land and, after a while, created a confederacy of their own. The caisraetlhal started off as henchmen and experiments, fabricated and used by alchemists. The great councils all raced after one another to create the first living being. Many failed in their attempts, but those who succeeded all failed to figure out one thing. They were never capable of giving them emotions, forming a race of logical creatures. Considering their incredible minds, they used them for many years as aids and igors, until, at one point or another, they found it logical to run away or kill their own masters. From there on, every time they procreated, the child born had no emotions, and presented with extraordinary logical thinking. Here and there, such children popped up and, throughout the years, the confederacy of the caisraetlal was established.
The caisraetlal are rarely humorous. They tend to not understand humour or metaphors for that matter. They don’t read between the lines. Their brains aren’t built for second meanings. They have strange art forms and a hugely different perception of beauty than other races. They see symmetry as a great beauty, but not to its full extent. There must always be an imperfection to be truly perfect. They also see beauty in amazing tactical orchestration, whether it is successful or not. They cherish the logic and puzzles in life and love to look for and find patterns. caisraetlal dislike alcohol, since it is destructive for the system and alters the logical reality before them. They rarely possess money of any kind, given they have no currency and rather barter.
The striking thing about caisraetlal is their appearance. Unless you take a good look at them, you don’t notice them at first. It’s only after that you see the deep purple eyes that surmount their almost perfect face. Their features are slender like an elf’s, but their ears aren’t pointed. Coupled with their snow white hair and no facial nor body hair, they take attentive people off guard. But the oddest of all is their scar, following their back, arms and legs, almost like the skin was sewn on.
Given they are a logical race with a different way of thinking, the caisraetlal receive a +2 bonus to intelligence and a +1 to wisdom. However, they can be very blunt at times and sometimes assume things they shouldn’t, given people aren’t always honest or clear with their words. Consequently, they receive a -2 to charisma. They also require 12 in intelligence and 9 in wisdom. Their charisma will also never surpass 16. They also receive +4 on saving throws against illusions given they will logically find the faults in them and see the deception for what it is.
The first caisraetlal were henchmen, learning their craft from their masters. They delved in alchemy and magic, passing the scalpel and pulling the lever. The caisraetlal can become mages easily, their only restrictions in specialization being greater divination and illusion, finding one unreliable and the other pointless. Science is their religion and wizards are their priests. They reject the superior power hypotheses since the scientific method has proven much more realistic. Thus, no cleric, paladin or specialized priest sprouts from the caisraetlal. Converting attempts almost always end in a brawl when a caisraetl is involved due to their lose tongue and blunt words. However, thieves can be seen roaming here and there. In the early years after the revolt, many tended to ere from city to city, searching work or other, and found the guilds to which they became great assets. A good deal of years later, the confederacy was formed and the caisraetlal required an army. The fighter class became an essential part of the forces, required as strategists and infantries. However, the forces of the confederacy weren’t armed with dangerous, conventional weapons. What use would they be, given that distance in wars is the greatest advantage? The caisraetlal warrior will favor long distance weapons such as bows, crossbows and spellshots to swords and hammers. They also keep short side arms for good measure. Even though the caisraetlèh society is eco friendly, the ranger mentality, that animals should be cared after, helped when possible and evil should be held at bay, isn’t in their way of thinking. Although bards sometimes appear, their type of music is strange, like puzzles and games. Featured oddities include: fugues, chromatic key progressions, equivalent scale climbs and descents, mathematical subtleties and drone intervals to only name a few.
The caisraetl’s alignment is strictly true neutral. Given they will logically do what is in the interest of everyone however cruel a ruling it can be, and won’t do the best for only themselves, they inherently act completely neutral.
One of the strangest things about the caisraetlal is their form of language. In fact, it’s hardly a language really. It’s more of a link between themselves. Their higher understanding of the world around them permits them to communicate with barely any sound at all, given they are in front of each other of course. They resort to common when required, but rarely have to. They mostly look at each other and make subtle movements which, coupled with body language and context, allows them to comprehend each other perfectly. This language, however, requires a great deal of effort for non-caisraetlal to understand (15%), and an even greater effort to speak it (5%).
