Homebrew Cutthroats Species Details

Cutthroats hail from oceanic realms, being master warriors within the murky depths. They are known for their ferocious prowess in combat both with and without weaponry. They are humanoid fishfolk that take the form of predatory fish. Ranging from sharks, barracuda, eels, etc.

Cutthroats are well known across realms as fierce warriors, often joining mercenary or pirate groups. They are more often than not, feared by other humanoids. Especially those who are not familiar with the Cutthroats. Unfortunately, it has led some to embrace this image of themselves, leading to some heinous villains throughout the ages.

Cutthroat society is based on strength, typically leading to smaller and 'weaker' Cutthroats becoming bullies & cowards. It is a driving force for Cutthroats to leave their homes to become stronger or to simply leave a particular bad bullying leader.

Cutthroats Traits

These piscine traits help Cutthroats in becoming powerful warrriors.

Natural Armor

Cutthroats have naturally tough skin, reinforced by scales, and or thick leathery skin. This allows them to have natural armor they can use when crafted armor isn't available or it breaks. Allowing them a natural AC of 12 + Dexterity Modifier.

Natural Weapon: Bite

Cutthroats much like the predatory fish of the seas, Cutthroats use powerful jaws and sharp teeth. Ripping and tearing into opponents, they have a natural weapon in the form of a bite, dealing 1d6 + Strength/Dexterity (whichever is higher) piercing damage.

Amphibian Breathing

The range of Cutthroats spans both oceans & lands, Cutthroats can breathe both in and out of water indefinitely.

Predatory Frenzy

Pulling from instinct and bloodthirsty frenzy, Cutthroats can activate a frenzy-like state for a moment in the heat of battle.

You can activate your predatory instincts to gain advantage on your next attack, you can use this a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier, and you regain use of this ability once you’ve had a short/long rest.
