Homebrew Deviant Concubus Species Details
Knowledge of this type of fiend is scant, and what is known about them is usually mistaken as being about Tieflings, fueling the unfortunate treatment of that race.
Fiendish Origin
Succubi and Incubi are created from the spiritual energy of the abyss and are 'born' fully formed into the strict, homogeneous culture of fiendish society. Concubi are expected to, and usually do, dedicate their existences to perpetuating the cycle of spiritual energy. Their draining kiss ability steals the life energy of beings from the Material Plane, which sustains the Abyssal Plane's ability to create more soldiers for it's never-ending wars.
Some Concubi, however, are seen as deviant. Almost any form of individuality is seen as disgraceful in their society, and if the individual fiend refuses to conform, they are severed from their inate connection with the Abyssal Plane and banished to the Material Plane in their weakned state, the rest of their kind not expecting them to survive.
The process of this banishment leaves them in a weakened state. Their wings are removed, an action so violent that the scars from which can show even after the Concubi takes on another form. Their draining kiss is also weakened, and while they can learn to empower it, with the connection to their home plane severed, any life force they steal stays with them, unable to be sent to the abyss.
Despite their close relation to Tieflings, Deviant Concubi usually choose to live in the forms of other races, providing them a level of security that being Tieflings certainly wouldn't help them keep.
Self-Reliant and Saucy
Deviant Concubi typically prefer to live a vagabond lifestyle, travelling from town to town and leaving to avoid any suspicions due to their inherently enthralling nature. There are some, however who prefer to set down roots, even forming families or working their way into high level roles in various institutions.
Thanks to their shapechanging abilities, Concubi can find a home almost anywhere in the world. Some also use these abilities to become assassins, spies, or to just create a new identity when their true nature is close to being revealed.
Much like Tieflings, Concubi can also face judgements and mistrust from those around them. The ability of Concubi being irresistible to most who lay eyes on them, this however is only one facet of this effect. Certainly some beings do lay eyes upon a Concubus and feel the urge to bed them, others simply wish to spend time with and befriend them and others still desire to inflict great harm against them. The true effect of this ability is that any emotions felt towards a Concubus are felt at their most extreme. Thankfully, given enough time, and actual emotional bonding with the Concubus, this effect will wear off.
The few Concubi who do settle in one place do not try to blend in for this very reason. They will make themselves an important fixture of their communities. Some become wise mentors, guiding the youth of their community, others may become the head of a parent-school committee, the keeper of a popular tavern, or an outspoken religious leader. Any member of your community who people have strong feelings about could potentially be one of these Deviant Concubi, for better or for worse.
Deviant Concubi Names
Much like their Tiefling relatives, Deviant Concubi names tend to fall into three broad categories. Concubi that adopt another culture typically have names reflective of that culture. Others will choose to keep their names baed in the Infernal or Abyssal languages. Others have grown a fondness and respect for Tieflings, and how they do not allow the perceptions of others define them, and will adopt a virtue name in hopes that they too can forge their own path, away from both how their home saw them, and how those on the material plane would see them if they knew what they truly were.

The Good, The Bad and The Beautiful
Despite what is commonly assumed, Concubi do not all exist primarily as evil creatures. The reason most people will never meet a good-aligned Concubi is because these creatures do their best to live normal and pleasant lives, to hide their origins from the rest of the world.
With that being said, yes plenty of evil Concubi do exist, as do evil Deviant Concubi. Unfortunately the actions of these members of their race only make it more difficult for the well meaning Deviant Concubi to be honest about their origins. Not to mention the extra detrimental effects to the Tieflings reputation, as many evil-aligned Deviant Concubi get mistaken for Tieflings when they are discovered.
Thankfully many Deviant Concubi feel a camaraderie with the Tiefling race, and while they themselves will not reveal what they truly are, they try to foster empathy and understanding when others speak ill of Tieflings, and due to their ability to easily influence others, this does usually succeed, if only on a small scale, it still makes some difference.

Posted Sep 25, 2022Oops, the age info/winged Incubus picture was leftover from whenever i intended to create this race as an incubus who was pretending to be a Tiefling, sorry for any confusion, this isn't intended to be a finished version of the race anyway, i posted in hopes of receiving some constructive criticism (the name of the race will remain the same though, so if you want to use this race and cant find this version then ill probably almost be done with a final version of it :)
