I HAVE NO FEAR *HONK!* - Goosetavo the barbarian
Avian and Draconic
Thought to be a distant relative of the aarokocra or kenku
who bred with dragons, the arserin are a terrifying, but very
rare people. They use their innate pseudo-draconic abilities
to travel the world, experincing different cultures without
worry for their safety. Their draconic blood, however, is not
strong in the modern era. But stories from long ago speak of
giant goosefolk ruling the northern regions of the world as
the servants of the dragons, instituting their will in return for
power. The arserin deny that they were ever subserviant to
any dragon, stating that their pride and egos wouldn't allow
such a thing. And yet, there are bones of their massive
ancestors that still litter the layers of ancient red and blue
dragons who claim otherwise. Nowadays though, the only
remaining aspects of their draconic ancestry are their
inability to feel fear and their ability to harness the frightful
presence of their distant ancestors with their infamous
frightful honk.
Abrasive Personalities, Hearts of Gold
Like a true goose, the arserin are considered loud, aggressive,
and foolhardy. They are dirty and generally unclean at times,
but like to wear fine clothes and are generally spotless. It is
the places they are in that they leave dirty. Because of this,
they are often not welcome in the cities of other races, such
as elves, for long periods of time. But the arserin are also
known as reliable and capable entertainers and fighters. They
defend and care for the places the call home with great zeal
and determination. They never back down from a fight to
protect what they care for, even if they are told it is utterly
unwinnable. Additionally, they will always help a friend in
need. Those who manage to befriend an arserin have a friend
for life who will follow them to the ends of the earth, stick
with them through thick and thin, and be there for them in
their darkest moments to help them back to the light - even if
they are not wanted.
Enemies of the Arserin
There are no creatures known to the arserin that they hate
more than the kobolds. There is a rumor that the arserin are
mutated kobolds or that they are the product of kobold and
aarokocra interbreeding given that they are a similar stature
and that both are vaguely draconic. Should one repeat this
rumor to an arserin, they should be prepared for the blind
rage that follows. To the arserin, the kobolds are weak, frail,
subservient things with no spine. They are the lowest of the
low and not fit to live in the same world as them. Add in the
fact that kobolds are often thieves who live underground in
mines, and you will begin to understand the root of their
hatred.
Similar to the kobolds, the arserin loathe goblins. Many of
the reasons are the same, but the goblinoids are also the only
ones who came closest to conquering Kansir over 100 years
ago. Maglubiyet is among their most hated gods for this
reason. But, even higher than the goblins, but below the
kobolds, are giants. Giants are incredibly large, and the
arserin are somewhat jealous. They hate that the often
dimwitted giants were blessed with the stature that they
deserve and once possesed. On top of this, a powerful group
of cloud giants has caused them trouble for the last few
hundred years. They demand tribute of diro root and the
arserin have no choice but to accept due to the cloud giants
strength. Several attempts have been made to eliminate these
cloud giants, but all have failed miserably. All the arserin have
managed to do is annoy them and sharply increase the
expected tribue with each attempt.
Arserin Names
Arserin names are a thing of simplicity and often reflect their
travels, trade, and contact the other races of the world. They
can have almost any name from any culture, but tend towards
either draconic, dwarven, or human names. Additionally, it is
common practice for them to take a name based on fallen
comrades, places they have been, nicknames they have been
given, or just combinations of sounds they enjoy. To the
arserin, names are a fluid concept that reflect who they are at
that time in their lives.

Kansir, Kingdom of the Arserin
While the arserin are considered a rare sight in most of the
world, they do have their own kingdom in the north. It is a
small kingdom, but a powerful and wealthy one. There are
many reasons why the kingdom of kansir is so wealthy, but it
ultimately boils down to two factors: gems and ingredients.
The mines of kansir produce some of the highest quality
gems in the world. Dwarves and gnomes will do anything for
them, and the arserin sell them at a premium. But, the
primary reason for their immense affluence, is the rare diro
root that only grows in the region of Kansir. The root has a
slightly salty, spicy, almost citrus-like flavor that is highly
sought after by nobles in other kingdoms. It can also be used
as a reagent in healing potions to increase potency. These
two factors, the gems and the diro root, have created a
prosperous land for the arserin, but also one that has seen
more than its fair share of war.
The Kingdom of Kansir has been sieged many times by
other humanoids, dragons, and even the giants, but it has
never fallen. It is a kingdom of winding rivers, waterways,
and rolling hills where they grow the diro root. The northern
most regions of the kingdom are made almsot entirely of the
Haujing mountains where they mine for the gems that made
them rich. And, in the exact center of the kingdom, is the
grand city of Versari; the capital founded by their greatest
king, King Akhar I. It is comprised almost entirely of intricate
canals, long islands chains, complex alleys, and lies in the
center of a vast, misty lake surrounded by thick evergreen
forests. The roads open up to it, revealing a shining city with
few equals.
