Homebrew Wulven Species Details

In the great fortresses and citadels across the planes, there are many varieties of people, from the lowly guard to the highest of lords, from the newest altar boy to the great priests, none equal the Wulven. the greatest tacticians, the most zealous and loyal shock troops, the most sought after of all mercenaries. the Wulven represent the pinnacle of religious and militaristic prowess, having led the flaming crusades every decade since they began.

Battlefield commanders 

Wulven are naturally inclined towards martial pursuits. everything about them, from their physical forms, to their uncanny grasp of tactics and enemy positioning, is optimized for a life of war. not only the actual battles and physical dangers of war, but also the political intrigue that comes with being an officer of an army.

Wulven thus place a premium on strategy and charisma. They have a compulsion to keep score, counting their deeds and tallying their accomplishments to compare to others. Wulven are bred to win, but they see defeat as an opportunity to improve themselves.

This dedication to honorable conflict can take a dark turn, however. Wulven are ferocious competitors, but above all else they are driven to outdo their peers, above all, their family. If a Wulven slays a dragon, their child might seek out a larger, more powerful wyrm to battle. Few Wulven adventurers reach old age, as most die attempting to surpass their Ancestors accomplishments.

 

Wulven Names

Every Wulven has three names: a birth name assigned by the newborn’s mother and father, a deed name given to them by their commanders, and a family or clan name. . Clan names are the first syllable of the birth name, combined with the last syllable of the deed name of the most notable clan member.

Birth names are rarely linked to gender. Wulven see females and males as equal in all things, and they find societies with roles divided by gender to be puzzling or worthy of mockery. To a Wulven, the person who is best at a job should be the one tasked with doing it.

A Wulven's deed name is a title that refers to the Wulven's greatest personal achievement. It is constantly subject to change, as if a Wulven ever performs a more impressive feat, their deed name will change to reflect this. Wulven assign and use Deed names with their friends of other races, and change them to refer to an individual’s notable deeds.

Wulven present all three names when identifying themselves, in the order of clan name, Deed name, and birth name. In casual conversation, they use their birth name.
