Homebrew Wolpertinger Species Details

Wolpertinger

Woodland Beastfolk

The Wolpertinger are a humanoid beastfolk with a strange amalgam of features resembling common woodland beasts. One may have the head and body of a hare, antlers of a deer, fangs of a wolf, and the wings of a bird; another may have a hawk’s feet, a squirrel’s tail, a badger’s head, a bat’s wings, or any other combination of features.

Mountain Fey

Wolpertinger originated in the Feywild. Their existence is sometimes hotly debated by other mountain-dwelling folk, as the bodies of slain Wolpertinger have long been regarded as rural hoaxes. The truth is that Wolpertinger simply prefer to keep to themselves and not draw the attention of others to their secluded homes. They prefer to inhabit alpine forests and dwell in small communal villages where everyone is expected to watch out for their neighbour. In particular, the care of young kits is shared between all the adults. They can be fiercely territorial, and the entire village will mobilise at the first sign of a threat, attacking and flanking enemies in packs. Most Wolpertinger are omnivorous, and have no issue hunting for game, despite any superficial resemblances.
