Homebrew Broom Goblin Species Details
Beni, the last living Broom Goblin of her hometown, dashes across the burning landscape that was once her home. The shrieks of Orcish and Draconic tongues ring about the hills, and they continue their rampage. Filled with despair, the Broom Goblin ransacks the smoldering ruins of their local blacksmith and collects herself. Armed to the teeth, Beni sets off across the hills, on the hunt for those who have wronged her.
The simplicity of the cleanse is what keeps most Broom Goblins going. The very possibility of cleaning and making someone's life easier and stress-free invigorates them, which is one of the reasons they are so universally loved. While very close to their families and neighbors, most Broom Goblins mature with extreme speed and are quick to leave their hometowns behind to take their services elsewhere. Broom Goblins usually do this, or make the decision to stay in their hometowns to protect their keeps.
Small and Meek...?
The Broom Goblins, while seeming short and harmless, enjoy using this to their advantage. Trying to survive in a world full of larger creatures may seem difficult, but the nimbleness of the Goblins gives them an easy upper hand, and they enjoy using this to avoid notice or, barring that, avoiding offense. Standing about 2-3 feet tall, they appear relatively harmless and have managed to survive for centuries with their fellow followers and cleaning supplies. While short and stout, they weigh around 50-100 pounds on average, much more than the more common halfling races.
Broom Goblins, while an entirely different race now, are actually a cousin race of the elvish people, so their skin ranges from a sage color to a pale shade, and their hair, if they have any, is usually dark brown or light gray. They have green or hazel eyes. Broom Goblin men usually sport a kind of large mustache, as long and robust beards are reserved for the male elders of the village. They like to wear a simple and comfortable robe or dress-like clothing, with varying, natural, and unnoticable colors depending on their family crest.
Broom Goblins usually do not focus on fashion or vanity, or anything of the sort. They’re most concerned with getting things done and bringing respect and honor to their family's names, sometimes to such an extreme that they neglect their own well-being and cleanliness. Even the wealthiest of Goblins prefer keeping all treasures and things of the sort in the safest places possible, while still keeping them in the best possible conditions. They are quite protective in this manner and have no problem making sure people know it.
Kind in the Best Way...
Broom Goblins, while they are affable and cheerful people, are quick to deliver constructive criticism. They cherish the bonds of family and friendship to the extreme and have no problem making sure their loved ones know what they need to do to be the best person they can be. While this easily can come off as blunt and rude, they always have the best intentions and never write any people off as too far from help. Broom Goblins are easily moved to pity and hate to see any living thing suffer, but will do anything they can to help them, for better or worse.
Standing Out
Broom Goblins, unlike other shorter races, are quite bad at fitting into a community of humans, dwarves, or elves. The combination of their inherent cleanliness for others and their very stand-offish criticisms sometimes bring unwanted attention to them. Fortunately, in dangerous situations, they are known to blend into their backgrounds with their simple-colored clothing.
Broom Goblins work easily with others, and are always loyal to their friends, whether Broomish or otherwise. They can display remarkable ferocity when their friends, families, or communities are threatened.
Following Connections
Most Broom Goblins distance themselves from others who do not share their following but refuse to exile any who do not, as they treat most beings with mutual respect. While most Broom Goblins follow this ideal, many tend to stray away from Orcish beings, as the ancient Broom Goblins and Orcs of the olden days had a tendency to do battle with innocents, so gruesome that there was never any defined winner.
POSITIVE IN THEIR OWN RIGHT
Broom Goblins, while straying away from more dangerous races and culture, try to get along with everyone else and are loath to make sweeping generalizations—especially negative ones.
Dwarves. “Very good. Short. Good. Not clean, though. That is not good.”
Elves. “Most pretty. Likeable. Big places to live! Big places to clean! Very clean people!”
Humans. “Honorable. Very nice. Not the cleanest, but there is always room for improvement.”
Exploring Cleansing Opportunities
Broom Goblins usually set out on the adventurer’s path to either defend their communities, support their friends, or explore a wide and wonder-filled world. However, the most common quest of a Broom Goblin is to achieve the purest and perfect version of themselves, in order to reach their own Nirvana after death.
