Homebrew Avial Species Details

Avials are a race of humanoid birdfolk, looking like a cross of humans and Aarakocra. Legend has it that they originated in the Astral Plane, but "fell" to the Material Plane after being ousted by the Githyanki, though most Avials will tell you that they left of their own accord.

Avials have at times been compared to angels, due to their mostly humanoid appearance, save their talonesque feet, and large wings that protrude from their backs. Though they have been compared to Celestials, they technically are not. Some have speculated that Avials emerged as a cross-breeding pairing of a human and an Aarakocra, however due to their extended lifespan this theory has largely been dismissed as heresay.

Avials are not immortal, but can live thousands of years, with a select few living to be about 4,000 years old. 

With their large, sturdy wings, Avials can soar high in the sky for long periods of time, sometimes not stopping for rest for at least a day.

Avials tend to lean towards a neutral alignment, feeling more of an inclination towards themselves and their people. They have lived outside of human civilization for almost their entire existence, though a few have ventured out of the mountains into society. Very unusual to see, they are often the subject of speculation among common folk.

Age

Avials age differently than humans. Avials can live to be 2,000 years old, though a select few "ancients" have lived to be 4,000. Avials typically reach adulthood by 150 years old.

Size

Slightly larger than humans, Avials tend to be 6 to 7 feet tall. Avials wings tend to be 7 feet across.

Avian Might

At 4th level, you may use your action to charge an opponent within flying distance and attack using your wings. The opponent must make a STR saving throw (DC13), or take 2d8 bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. They take half the amount of damage on a success and are not knocked prone.

Keen Sight

You have darkvision up to 120 feet. You can see in the dark as if it is dim lighting, and in dim lighting as if it is daylight, however you cannot discern color and only see in shades of grey.

You speak common and two other languages of your choice.
