Homebrew Arrancar Species Details

Arrancar is the name given to hollows who could not reach vasto lorde level but are above that of a normal Adjuchas hollow. This only applies to those who have a rank below 4 and the top 4 are genuine vasto lorde who are the puriest kind of hollow.

Physical Description

Arrancar appear similar to the mortal species they once were, with the exception of variations unique to each individual, such as having a completely pale complexion or exaggerated facial features. Many also have tatoo-like markings on various parts of their body, especially their faces. Alongside these traits, all Arrancar have a fragment of a bone-like “mask” attached to their skull, and a hole that goes through some part of their body.

History

Hollows are former humans who were unable to pass on successfully due to a deep hatred or regret they had before they died. Those who had deep hatred could only think one thing which was the murder and devour the souls they have hatred towards and only until they are eaten can the hollow have the slightest chance to evolve. If you had a regret towards something your transformation into a hollow will take a while and have a chance to pass on without being corrupted but if you do become a hollow at this point it is very common for you to only have one goal which is to devour other souls in the hopes of filling the void left where your heart used to be.

As a hollow lives, they are hunted by other souls known as soul reapers whose goal is to exorcise them and allow them to pass on and forgive them of the sins they committed as hollows. For a hollow to evolve and become stronger they must eat other souls with large quantities of spiritual energy however as they evolve there is a high chance in they lose their sense of self and become unable to evolve. Most basic hollows already lack their sense of self and are mindless monsters only dedicated to filling the void in their heart.

Arrancar were once regular hollows who were able to keep their sense of self even after cannibalizing and evolving 3 times. After each evolution, there is a high chance for one to lose their sense of self and become a mindless Gillan once they evolve once. The majority of the time when a hollow reaches the Arrancar stage in its evolution this means one of two things, either it has removed its mask through its own power and attained human form and the ability to have cognitive thought or with the help of an outside source gain enough strength to rip off a part of its own mask. A remnant of their former face (mask) will be leftover to signify their former life.

Society

The Arrancar is a subrace to the gillan races which are menos grande, Adjuchas, and vasto lorde. The Arrancar are located between Adjuchas and Vasto Lorde in terms of ranking. The society they live in is one based on strength and strength alone the strongest is ranked first and so onwards until you reach the weakest at 10. The ten strongest rule over those weaker and any who rank below the weakest of the ten decide on which of the ten they follow. Each member of the ruling class presides over an aspect of death such as rage, solitude, time, sacrifice, nihilism, despair, destruction, intoxication, insanity, and greed. Their society is based simply on strength and strength alone to get stronger one must devour the others. There is a large amount of animosity between each of the ten and their subordinates.

Arrancar Names

As a form of intelligent undead, Arrancar retain the naming scheme of whatever race they originated from, though not necessarily their original name.

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Strength score increases by 1.

Age

Arrancar do not age past the day they were turned. However, they can live until they are killed at any age

Alignment

Arrancar mortality is as diverse as humanities, though they tend to lean towards chaotic alignments favouring themselves over others however there are some who can be lawful

Size

As they heavily resemble humanoid races. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Limb Regeneration

You can regenerate severed body members as per the regenerate spell. Once you do so you cannot do so again until you complete a long rest.

Hollow

Arrancar are a form of Hollow, and as such are corrupted spirits. You have two creature types: humanoid and fiend. You can be affected by effects if it works on either of your creature types.

Peaquisa

Arrancar can sense when creatures of a spiritual nature are nearby. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to locate celestials, elementals, fey, fiends, or undead.

You can speak, read and write Common and one other language of your choice.
