Homebrew Aara'epon Species Details

Aara'epon, also known as hivers, are a race of insectoids known for their cooperation and industriousness. Their works and industry are near unmatched, though other features are less positive.

A Baubled Exterior

The aara'epon's form seems rather insectoid, though they exhibit a wide selection of weapons and decorations that distinguish them from the common bug. The working caste is the only one seen outside of the hives, and it is the basis of their society.

Their body is made of round plated sections: a round head, a round chest, round hips, and a round gaster. All but the head are covered in thick golden fur. Their face is made with a pincer-like maw containing a long tongue, two wide compound eyes, and a long nose in the shape of a cannon: Through this organ they can expel a stream of toxic mist. Between is a pair of bent antennae and three smaller eyes with limited vision. They have 2 arms on their chest, near the front as in insects and reptiles. Their 2-fingered claws are wickedly sharp, though rather inelegant. At the base of their chest sprout 2 pairs of wings, which are connected into a singular pair of planes. Attaching to the hips are their four legs, each equipped with claws for climbing, and a pair of spiracles to the back. Behind this is the gaster, in which most of the organs are held. This tagma is tipped with a venomous stinger.

Natural Industry

The one thing that matters to an individual Aara'epon is the hive. All they do is in service to their hive. Despite this they are still individuals, with the same range of personalities and behaviours as any other race. They have no rulers, and work only for the love of work and loyalty to the hive. This work is quite a lot, given their extreme tenacity.

Aara'epons have no concept of privacy, and are constantly speaking out their minds and intentions. This causes tensions between them and others, with aara'epons deeming others secretive and untrustworthy, and the others finding aara'epons loud and obnoxious.

Glorious Hives

The aara'epon's constant industry is shown rather obviously in their great hives. These towering structures, made of a strange daub peculiar to this race, are filled constantly with all sorts of agriculture, manufacturing, and other toil. From this the hive will always keep on thriving through all but the harshest challenges. This gives the inhabitants a rather good life for as long as they live within its walls.

Aara'epon Names

Aara'epon individuals do not have names. While between friends there might be a nickname or two, wider aara'epon society does not care for the individual enough for names to matter. Instead, aara'epon are identified by the name of the hive: This is often the name they give to outsiders. Hive names are complex, and usually are split into 3 sections.

Exploring the Realm

In times of excess (which are generally the norm), adventurers are sent from the hive in great numbers to explore the world and learn about it. Often they band together with their hive-mates, but many others choose to find companions from outside of the hive in order to broaden their horizons.
