Homebrew Beakko Species Details

They're not just ducks. They are so much more than ducks.

"... it was at noon, exactly, when I saw it.

"His mouth - beak, rather - was at my chest height. I know I'm tall, but he was certainly, most definitely not. I invited him inside, and he obeyed. That's when I realized he understood common.

"He didn't speak the language well, instead choosing to speak through squawks and hand - feather? Wing? - gestures I deciphered quite easily. He squawked out his name - 'te-E-rk,' or in common, 'Terrk,' and that was the moment I realized this was no ordinary creature. This one of the many in a race of creatures.

"He makes a lovely companion, a great friend, and an even better assistant."

Beakko Traits

For a race of... ducks, the beakko are a pretty amazing race. To be fair, again, they are basically ducks. But ducks are cool. I like ducks.

Qu'ak

Qu'ak is an ancient beakko language spoken by the beakko since the humble beginnings of the race. It's a complex language that few will ever understand or be able to replicate the noises of. Most beakko are fluent in Qu'ak and speak better Qu'ak than common.

Featherstorm

Wings and feathers, feathers and wings. Beakko are able to use this to their advantage, magically summoning the motherload of all feathers to surround you, your allies, and your foes. This blinds anyone in a ten foot radius around you, including yourself, and lasts for three turns.

It may or may not resemble the aftermath of a pillow fight, but heroes don't clean up after the battle. They epik-ly leave.

Feathery Coating

Beakko, being the ancestors of ducks, have a similar greasy coating on their feathers, allowing any negative effects applied to you physically via a liquid state, such as acid, to roll off your back.

Innate Instincts

Since the moment a beakko hatches, they must immediately find safety, for if their egg has survived for that long, there are certainly predators near by. This especially holds true if they were not hatched in a tree-hut village but instead on the ground.

Through their innate instincts from hatching, beakko can sense danger and have advantage on wisdom saving throws.

Age, Size, & Languages

Beakko, after hatching, usually live upward to about fifty years until their demise. They're taller than a gnome but shorter than a human, standing at approximately 4'2" when fully grown. Of course, this does vary based on the duck- I mean, beakko.

Beakko aren't native speakers of common. They understand it, but they most often communicate in their discreet language of Qu'ak. Most common-speakers are able to decipher what a beakko is trying to say, or at least pretend to, because beakko don't like to be misunderstood.
