Homebrew Ascendant Species Details
The ascendants are more than mere mortals, due to their godly blood. They are birthed when a God and a mortal have intimacy. They share the racial looks of their mortal parent, but have very striking features no mortal can develop. They have glowing eyes, which vary in colour depending on what God they derive from. This is the same for their hair, however they are unable to grow any facial hair to set them apart from mortals.
They only follow and trust their derivative God, and are distasteful of the other Gods. However, ascendants can unlawfully divert from their birth God, which is seen as heresy, no matter what God they are related to. This makes talking to others, ascendant or not, quite challenging because of their beliefs.
Ascendant Traits
The ascendants are interlinked with the Gods, but share the mortal plain with inferior people.Ability Score Increase/Decrease
The ascendant's blood lets them become powerful for any domain, except speech. Due to their innate superiority, they look down on others, meaning they talk in a very stern manner. Any ability score of your choice is increased by 3, except charisma. Your charisma is decreased by 3.
Age
Ascendants mature around the age of 18, similar to humans. However, they are immortal, meaning they do not die from natural means.
Size
Your vary from 6ft to 9ft, with your size being large.
Speed
Ascendants hover over the ground, but can walk. Because of them hovering, they have no need to climb or burrow. Your walking, flying and swimming speed is 40ft.
Languages
Ascendants are naturally gifted in every language, but at a cost of only being able to understand one language once every long rest.
Divinity and Heresy
Ascendants all share a divine presence, meaning that they will take 1d4 less damage from holy sources, and deal 1d4 more holy damage. However this comes at a downside of being more effected by unholy sources than others. In short, they will deal 1d4 less unholy damage and take 1d4 more unholy damage.
Divine Word
From level 10 onwards, the ascendant is allowed to cast divine word once every 3 long rests, no matter what class the ascendant is. However, ascendant warlocks or wizards under the school of necromancy are unable to cast this spell, due to their heretical beliefs.
Darkvision
An ascendant's glowing eyes luminate the surroundings for them, letting them see up 120ft in a dark room. The glowing eyes also allow others to see up to 30ft only in a dimly lit room. At 5th level, ascendants can roll a d20 to see whether a room is illuminated. If the roll is 15 or above, the room is successfully illuminated. From 5 to 14, the room is partially illuminated. From 1 to 4, there room is not illuminated, and the other people in the room must roll a constitution saving throw to see whether they get blinded or not. At 12th level, ascendants can cast this spell, without it blinding anyone, but will still have the same consequences.
Divine yet Lightweight
The divine blood prevents any disease from infecting the ascendant, except lycanthropy and vampirism. This comes at a downside of being unable to drink most alcohols and sometimes take poison damage if the ascendant tries to drink potent alcohol.
