Homebrew Alwanuling Species Details

Traveler's Logue

During my adventures in the desert, I encountered a large avian fellow that happily accompanied and guided me through the sands. Whenever we stopped to rest he would happily play away at his instrument while singing. He would tell me stories of his brother who became a soldier, his sister who was a painter, and other members of his family all with different professions. It saddened me when we had to part ways, but I kept everything he said in mind. If I ever needed something done, I could always rely on the work of an Alwanuling.

Physical Traits

Alwanulings are tall, humanoid avians with large wings dark gray or black feathers, and faces that resemble a beaked mask. The mask's eyes are of various colors, capable of being any imaginable. The mask colors range from white, black, and even dark gold. While the masks normally don't move while they talk, the mask will open up whenever an Alwanuling is eating, or making a loud cry. 

Lore

These avian humanoids are said to be created by Alwanu, the God of Colors, and were thus named the Alwanulings. They were made to create and serve, and have been seen with almost every artistic or military job under the sun. Alwanu blessed his children with a unique talent that they discover in their youth, and become masters of in their adult years. Many cultivate their skills from a master of another race and pass on their teachings through them. In any case, an Alwanuling that is considered a master in their profession has skill that is nothing to scoff at, and are sought out often for their services. 

Age:  An Alwanuling spends their early years discovering what they are good at and what they wish to do in life. They practice this craft until they mature at age 15, usually under a master. They live to be about 70. 

Names: Alwanulings are named typically after the colors of their eyes and are sometimes named after the aforementioned color in another language.

Alwanuling Traits

You are a creation of Alwanu, and are thus given a talent to help make your mark on the world. An Alwanuling has the following traits.

Ability Score Increase + 2

One Ability Score of your choice increases by 2

Ability Score Increase +1

One Ability Score of your choice increases by 1.

Cooperative Cry

As a bonus action, you let out a cry that grants the Help action to one creature of your choice within 30ft that you can see and that can hear you.

Talons

You are proficient with unarmed strikes, which can deal 1d4 slashing damage on a hit.

Powerful Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Natural Talent

You are born with a natural talent, and gain the following properties.

 

• You gain proficiency with any instrument or artisan's tools

 

• You can choose one Feat at 1st Level

 

Languages

You know Common and two other languages of your choice.
