Homebrew Dhampir Fairy Species Details

A rare and natural phenomenon, Your birth is caused by necrotic energies fusing with fey magic. The Blood Curse has rooted itself into the home of your forest, corrupting all life and mutating the natives. Dhampir Fairies are so rare, they are thought of as myths. They can look like most fairies, but have darker distinctions. Most commonly, have bat like wings and draconic features such as horns and a tail. Anything of the grim nature identifies Dhamp Fairies.

Creating Your Character

At 1st level, you choose whether your character is a member of the human race or of a fantastical race. If you select a fantastical race such as the fairy or the harengon in this section, follow these additional rules during character creation.

Ability Score Increases

When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You can follow those suggestions or ignore them, but you can’t raise any of your scores above 20.

Languages

Your character can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character. The Player’s Handbook offers a list of languages to choose from. The DM is free to modify that list for a campaign.

Creature Type

Every creature in D&D, including each player character, has a special tag in the rules that identifies the type of creature they are. Most player characters are of the Humanoid type. A race in this chapter tells you what your character’s creature type is.

Here’s a list of the game’s creature types in alphabetical order: Aberration, Beast, Celestial, Construct, Dragon, Elemental, Fey, Fiend, Giant, Humanoid, Monstrosity, Ooze, Plant, Undead. These types don’t have rules themselves, but some rules in the game affect creatures of certain types in different ways. For example, the cure wounds spell doesn’t work on a Construct or an Undead.

Life Span

The typical life span of a player character in the D&D multiverse is about a century, assuming the character doesn’t meet a violent end on an adventure. Members of some races, such as dwarves and elves, can live for centuries. Fairies and harengons, however, have a life span of about a century.

Height and Weight

Player characters, regardless of race, typically fall into the same ranges of height and weight that humans have in our world. If you’d like to determine your character’s height or weight randomly, consult the Random Height and Weight table in the Player’s Handbook , and choose the row in the table that best represents the build you imagine for your character.

Dhampir Fairy Traits

As a Dhampir fairy, you have the following racial traits.

Creature Type

You are a Fey. and Undead

Size

You are Small.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Fairy Magic

You know the druidcraft cantrip.

Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the faerie fire spell with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the enlarge/reduce spell with this trait. Once you cast faerie fire or enlarge/reduce with this trait, you can’t cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast either of those spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.

Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).

Flight

Because of your wings, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. You can’t use this flying speed if you’re wearing medium or heavy armor.

Blood Curse

Like all life, consuming nutrients to live is a natural process. But with the curse, blood is the only substance that will allow you too live. The curse has mutated your taste be highly sensitive. Other foods wont be impossible to consume, just unpleasant and brings no benefits. Infact with such sensitive taste buds a misconception that garlic holds power over vampires has spread throughtout the centuries because of it.

Once per week, Dhampirs must partake in the blood of another humanoid in order to replace their own blood to survive. If a Dhampir fails to do so, they gain one point of exhaustion per day afterward that cannot be removed until they consume the blood of another humanoid.

Sunlight Sensitivity

The negative affects of the curse have diminished due to your connection to the fey. The effects are still prominent but now are able to walk around in the day, as long as your protected from the sun directly.

You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you are exposed to direct sunlight. Also lose the benefits of your supernatural strength when exposed.

Supernatural Strength

Cursed with undeath. Every muscle in your body has mutated to be able to adapt to the necrotic energy flowing through you. Combined with your natural grace, no energy is wasted, and every movement intentional. Few can match your display of raw power.

Get a +2 to damage rolls when you hit with a melee attack. This increases by 1 each tier.

Fangs

Due to your fairy magic, you can enlarge and reduce the size of your fangs as a self preservation technique.

Your fangs are a natural weapon which you can use to make unarmed strikes. Your fangs count as a finesse weapon, and as such if you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier.

Invigorate

When the curse calls to you, the smell of blood becomes stronger as you enter a trance. Spilling blood causes you to become hyper focused, unyielding, and regenerate wounds quickly as you bathe in your enemies blood.

Once per long rest, when you successfully attack a living humanoid with blood using your fangs, you can spend one Hit Die to heal yourself (no action required). Roll the die, add your Constitution modifier, and regain a number of hit points equal to the total. Using this ability counts as a source of blood for the blood curse effect.
