Homebrew Aeldari Species Details
The milky-way of the 41st millennium knows hundreds of thousands, if not milions of habitable planets and thousands of intelligent races. Some of the most important races are described on the following pages.
Aeldari
The Aeldari, or Eldar as they are known to outsiders, are an ancient race. They had been around for millions of years before humans even existed, but they now feel they are nearing the end. Holed up in their craftworlds, they depend on their psychically-gifted seers to minimise their losses in the galaxy-wide wars being waged, for every Aeldari that is killed brings them closer to extinction.
She who thirsts
Millions of years ago, the eldar were bordering excess on everything they did, decadency funneling their lives.
It would cost them dearly, as this livestyle produced a dark mass of negative psychic energy that would later give birth to Slaanesh, the fourth god of Chaos. The Aeldari call them She Who Thirsts, referring to the absorption of millions of eldar souls by the newly birthed god. In the years that followed, it became apparent that the soul of every dying eldar was siphoned by She Who Thirsts, which led to each and every eldar carrying around a soulstone, ancient artifacts that will house the eldar’s soul when they die. Afterwards the soulstone is brought to the craftworld to be housed alongside their brethren.
A Broken Race
After the birth of She Who Thirsts and the death of untold billions of their people, the Aeldari were subjected to an even deeper schism: some thought the ventual demise of their race to be inevitable, and only increased the fervour with which they partook in the debauchery that led to the demise of so many of their brethren. Their decadence became perverted and entwined with sadism. Slavery and torture was common for these fallen Aeldari that would become known as the Drukhari. They were exiled from the Crafworlds and created their own pirate fleets and covens, while those that tried to regain their race’s older values retreated back into the surviving craftworlds and became known as the Asuryani.
Eldar can live to become extremely old, their oldest Farseers living for over 10 000 Terran years. Their race as a whole is over 60 million years old, making theirs one of the oldest sentient races in the galaxy.
