Homebrew White Court Vampire Species Details

Being a vampire of the White Court is an existence that is subtly but fundamentally different from that of the more traditionally monstrous races of vampires. Most are not born with the knowledge of their lineage but will develop a gnawing hunger beginning in their adolescence that is seldom satisfied. A White Court Vampire derives it sustenance from the life force of creatures around it, much more of a psychic and emotional predator than a physical one. White Court vampires often favor a particular type of emotion to feed upon, with most seeking fear, despair, or lust as their primary sustenance.

White Court Vampire Traits

White Court Vampires are able to draw upon their Hunger in order to improve their physical and psychic capabilities in times of need.

Ability Score Increase

Your Hunger augments your internal ability to coerce, and if needed, hunt your food. Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Strength or Dexterity Increases by 1

Darkvision

Your Hunger allows you to see with its eyes. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Hunger

Beginning at 1st level, your Hunger is able to aid you in times of need. You gain a Hunger Score, which represents the amount of stored energy you can draw upon. Your ability to Feed replenishes this well of strength. When a creature fails its Saving Throw against your Feed ability, you may increase your Hunger Score by 1, up to a maximum score equal to your proficiency bonus.

Ever Hungry. If you do not successfully Feed for 7 consecutive days, you suffer one level of exhaustion which cannot be removed except by the use of this ability.

Hunger Trance. If you are reduced to zero hit points while your Hunger Score is 0, make a Wisdom Saving Throw. The DC is equal to 10 or half the damage taken, whichever is higher. On a failed save, your Hunger takes control of your physical body and seeks to feed on the nearest available creature within 30 feet. The creature makes a Saving Throw against your Feed ability at disadvantage. You remain in your trance for a number of hours equal to your level, or until you are successfully able to Feed. If you are unable to Feed in that time, you drop unconscious and begin making Death Saving Throws at disadvantage as your Hunger begins to consume your own life energy.

Feed

Your Hunger consumes a part of your target's life force. As an action, you touch one creature and force it to make a Wisdom saving throw as you attempt to drain away its emotional energy. The DC of this saving throw is 8 +  your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier. A creature who knows your true nature makes this Saving Throw with advantage. Any creature Charmed by you automatically fails its saving throw.

On a failed save, the creature gains one level of exhaustion and you increase your Hunger Score by 1. You also gain temporary hit points equal to your level + your Charisma modifier that last until your next short or long rest. While you have these temporary hit points you do not need to eat, drink, or sleep as the energy nourishes you.

On a successful save, the creature does not gain any levels of exhaustion and is immune to this effect for 24 hours.

You may use this ability a number of times equal to your Charisma Modifier per long rest. If you do not successfully use this ability for 7 consecutive days, you suffer one level of exhaustion which cannot be removed except by the use of this ability.

Bolster

Beginning at 3rd Level, you gain the ability to expend some of the energy your Hunger has taken in order to augment your own abilities. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Hunger Score. As an action, you can expend one use of this ability and reduce your Hunger Score by 1 to gain one of the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • You gain a bonus to all attack and damage rolls equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down).
  • You gain advantage on all skill checks made with a chosen Ability Score.

Superior Enhancement

When you reach 5th level, you become more familiar with your demon and can draw upon its energy more easily. You can now use a bonus action to activate your Bolster ability, and you gain an additional option when using this ability which allows you to reduce your Hunger Score by 2 to gain the following benefits:

  • Your walking speed is doubled.
  • You have advantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws for the duration.

Immense Expenditure

At 10th level, you gain the ability to draw large amounts of energy at a time. When using your Bolster ability you gain an additional option that allows you to reduce your Hunger Score by 3 to gain the following benefits:

  • You have advantage on all attack rolls and ability checks for the duration.

Embrace Hunger

Beginning at 15th level, your Hunger's strength has grown immensely. As an action, you may willingly accept all of your Hunger's strength for a number of minutes equal to your maximum Hunger Score. For the duration, you gain resistance to all nonmagical damage in addition to each of the benefits of your Bolster, Superior Enhancement, and Immense Expenditure abilities.
