Homebrew Candle Golem Species Details

"Yet standing alone in the field was seemingly a wax sculpture, still and at the base of what would have been a head was a wick, set alight with flame. Even as I approached, it moved not. I pondered to myself who had taken the time to carve such an odd candle. It was a strange sight, and though I moved around it, I could not fathom the reason for it's placement in this field. It had an odd sense of being out of place, like it had moved here by itself. Yet I planned to move past and write this odd encounter in my journal, no more than already here. But as I did, what I had presumed to be only sculpture was not as it seemed. It moved, seeming to turn to me. It spoke in a crackling voice, the flame burning brighter when the sound rung.
"Creature, you may not pass here. By order of the Warlock of these lands." It was clear as a bell. I asked why I may not, for that it had no answer. I suspect it to this day to be enchanted as a servant or guard of some variety. I wished not to disturb or cross the Warlock of the area, they are formidable opponents. I turned away and walked back the way I came."
-Julius the Bard, Stories of my Life

Naive to the world, rogue candle golems are hard to find. They do not often abandon masters, more likely to outlive them. They can be found anywhere, though old domains are most common. They can make formidable companions and even great friends assuming you don't use them simply as objects.

Differing Tastes

Candle Golems are often created to the taste of whichever enchanter created them. As such they come in an incredibly wide variety of colors. Not only the wax can be made into a rainbow of hues, but magic or other ingredients can change the color of the flame that makes up where their head would be. While these colors don't change any of their strengths, if you happen to come across multiple, you may find yourself with a light show.

Made of Mystery

There is so little known about candle golems due to how uncommon they are to find or see. It takes an unimaginable amount of magic to enchant one to stay alive. Almost all known creators of these creatures have passed. The golems are their last remaining relic. It is said that candle golems hold the memories of their creators and are replicas of themselves. The magic that keeps them burning and gives them life is a long lost secret kept among the enchanters of old. Many have tried to uncover those secrets to no avail. When asked, many candle golems will not even remember when they were first created.

Hot-Headed

Candle golems, being enchanted beings, are known for being temperamental. The magic that runs their lives and possibly even holds the memories of their creators is unreliable and it is hard to keep a candle golem calm. They tend to be outgoing and vibrant. Their emotions run hot, strong, and unstoppable like a blaze. Some people may refer to it as though the emotions of the creator have been fermented through the golem's magic. Not only this, but the flame that burns on their head sustains their life force. It's been enchanted to never go out until death.
