Homebrew Dragon Maiden Species Details

Dragon Maidens are distinctly feminine in appearance and possess maternal instincts.  They may present as females of any species, with most resembling elves.  No matter what species they present as Dragon Maidens seem to universally be perceived as attractive.  However, Dragon Maidens are not Humanoids, they are Draconic, and are infused with primordial energy that gives them a long lifespan, they have been known to live more than a 1000 years.

Dragon Maidens instinctively hide their true species and instead live as a member of the species they are presenting as.  Many Dragon Maidens choose to live in small enclaves with other Dragon Maidens.  Dragon Maidens mature at a similar rate to the species they are presenting as, when they reach maturity they tend to develop a form of wanderlust.  Most Dragon Maidens at this point are driven by curiosity and restlessness to explore.  This wanderlust often lasts several hundred years.  When the wanderlust ends, most Dragon Maidens settle down to raise a family.  Many Dragon Maidens take up adventuring during their wanderlust.

The true origins of the Dragon Maidens is unknown; however, the unique physiology of the Dragon Maidens lead many to believe that they started as true dragons or as a group of half-dragons.  No matter the origins, Dragon Maidens are unique in that they are a mono-gender species.  While they may mate with other species, true reproduction only takes place when the Dragon Maiden choses to merge magically with a willing partner.  Dragon Maidens may merge with a partner of any species or gender, but are attracted to those with high magical aptitude.

Dragon Maiden children are always Dragon Maidens and resemble their mother, with slight variations based on the father.  The exception to this rule is when a Dragon Maiden magically merges with dragons or half-dragons, the children of these mergers are always dragons of the father’s type, and may be male or female.

Dragon Maiden Traits

Dragon Maidens are an attractive race with an aptitude for magic and deception.

Attractive

As a dragon maiden you are universally perceived as attractive and receive advantage on Persuasion, Deception, and Performance checks.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light.  You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Blindsight

You have blindsight with a range of 10 feet. Within that range, you can effectively see anything that isn't behind total cover, even if you're blinded or in darkness. Moreover, you can see an invisible creature within that range, unless the creature successfully hides from you.

Innate Magic

At 1st level you know the Minor Illusion cantrip.

Starting at 3rd level you gain the ability to cast Disguise Self, and at 5th level you gain the ability to cast Suggestion.  Once you cast the Disguise Self or Suggestion with this trait, you can’t cast that Spell with it again until you finish a Long Rest; however, you can cast the Spell using any Spell Slots you have of the appropriate level.  Choose Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma as your spellcasting ability for these Spells.

Ability Score Increase

When you determine your character’s ability scores, choose two of them, and increase one by 2 and the other one by 1. Alternatively, choose three ability scores, and increase each of them by 1.
