Homebrew Daeshiru Species Details
The Tausu Empire of the Daeshiru has existed for almost eight centuries. Central to the structure of the Empire are the four kingdoms of Shir, Raeshai, Dorau, and Nareta (for which reason the Tausu leader is often referred to as the "Empress of the Four Kingdoms"). These four kingdoms are purely Daeshiru populated and controlled. Traditionally, the Empire also includes the Anajir state of K'zaksho and the racially-mixed Rachazo Basin. The mountainous Taushazu region is usually marked on maps as Empire territory, though its Shojir inhabitants have never and will never consider themselves under the rule of anyone except their own tribal chieftan. In its current, most extended reach, the Empire also includes all known lesser Daeshiru kingdoms. The Tausu Empire currently extends to the far eastern Bink'it forest, the home of the primitive Bariki, and to the edge of the northwestern steppes, where there is constant conflict with the centaur tribes who live there. The Tausu Empire is currently on friendly terms with the nearby Dwarvish kingdoms. Relations with Humans have not been especially friendly, though this is primarily because all Humans the Daeshiru have encountered to date have been pirates and brigands.
Daeshiru society is strongly divided along gener lines. Males tend towards academic and craft skills, whie females tend to be organizers and controllers. Within the military, almost all line troops are male, as are forward line officers. Upper-level officers, and the members of some special small tactical units are female.
Officers at all levels carry back-banners to identify themselves to the members of their command. Those of smaller units (male officers) are simple flags (similar to Japanese sashimono), while larger unit banners (female officers) have more elaborate banners that include the signet of the kingdom from which the unit was formed and a wind-sock or kite that is the individual unit's mascot. The kingdom emblem is usually adorned wit hthe tails of fallen warriors in the fashion of campaign ribbons. These may be from friend or foe: traditionally, the most honored fighter to die in a particular battle (there has been some heated debate on how to so honor newly-encountered non-tailed species.)
A Daeshiru army is built around its light archers or 'skirmishers.' These are unarmored troops armed with a longbow and little else, though some units carry the legendary torjuro, a rhomphaia-like weapon. These troops usually form at least 70% of any Imperial fighting force. In a serious campaign, or in garrison units, some more heavily armed troops are found. These will have a form of brigandine type armor (metal plates sewn between layers of cloth or leather) and heavy two-handed weapons. Some newer units of this type are armed with crossbows. A third type of troop, rarely seen except on parade or in very serious campaigns, are imperial guard troops. These wear armor similar to heavy Japanese samurai armor, and use heavy two-handed weapons. In situations of home defense or in times of internal rebellion, levy troops drawn up from local populations may be found with no armor, and armed with assorted 'archaic weapons' such as single-handed swords, spears, and large round shields. Some individual officers have experimented with lances for both light and medium troops, but it is not a common weapon.
Height and Weight
Median height for Daeshiru is 2.15 meters, body length (mid-chest to root-of-tail) 1.7 meters, mid-shoulder height (withers) 1.15 meters. Average body weight is 300kg. Males and females are similar in height and weight, though proportions differ somewhat: females tend to appear stockier. Hands are very human in appearance, though they are lightly furred on the backs, and the nails form short claws. Lower body paws are clawed like big cats.
Species from the Ral Partha Chaos Wars system.
