Homebrew Tiran Species Details

Hidden in high mountains and caves the Tiran also known as Fallen Aarakocra have fled from their aarakocra lineage to begin anew.

They are climbers and deft explorers searching for a new purpose in life.

Forgotten Lineage

Tiran while having come from aarakocra roots look almost nothing alike. Tiran appear as humanoids easily with feathers only growing in place of normal body hair. Standing upright, tiran might reach 7 feet tall, and they have long legs with nails that slowly turn to talons.

Feathers cover their bodies in place of body hair. Males and females often share colour schemes with light blues or dark browns often being the colour of their feathers. Their heads complete the human appearance, being something that looks completely normal as no feathers grow there.

Skyward Dwellers

Tiran are almost always found in high mountains and caves far from civilization. Tirans almost never leave these hidden homes unless to search for food for the young. Tiran fled to these caves to hide from the aarakocra after a falling out between the two.

Once underground, a tiran leaves the ground with reluctance. Those that make it to the surface find it a strange place.

Avian Mannerisms

The resemblance of tiran to birds and humans isn’t limited to physical features. Tirans display many of the same mannerisms as ordinary birds. They are fastidious about their plumage, frequently tending their feathers, cleaning and scratching away any tiny passengers they might have picked up.

The idea of ownership baffles most tiran. After all, who owns the earth? Even when explained to them, they initially find the notion of ownership mystifying. As a result, tiran who have little interaction with other people might be a nuisance as they rise from the ground to snatch livestock or plunder harvests for fruits and grains. Shiny, glittering ore catch their eyes.

They find it hard not to pluck the treasure and bring it back to their settlement to beautify it. A tiran who spends years among other races can learn to inhibit these impulses.

Homelands

Most tiran live on the Material Plane away from aarakocra. Tiran can be drawn into other realms, often to terrible consequences. A few find their way to such a world through portals on their own plane and establish nests in high mountains or in the canopies of old forests.

Once tribes of tiran settle in an area, they share a hunting territory that extends across an area up to 100 miles on a side, with each tribe hunting in the lands nearest to their colony, ranging farther should game become scarce.

Tiran Names

While tiran speak the same as most humans they often do not have names rather simply calling each other siblings. When interacting with other races, tiran may use names gained from people they meet or nicknames they've been called at home.
