Homebrew Aaefling Species Details
"And, alas, we are of our fathers and mothers, alike and yet opposite, one decay and the other light. Indeed, the union of angel and demon created a third essence. And we are those children. We are the nephalem. We exist as half angel and half demon, yet fully a new entity. And because of our lineage, they loved us. And because of our difference, they feared us. Within the trembling balance between love and fear is the relation of us to our fathers and mothers."
Aasimar is the descendants of celestials just as tieflings are to infernal beings. Aaefling is both. The result of the unholy union of Tiefling and Aasimar, Nephalem have both fiendish and celestial blood running through their veins. They are torn by a desire for good and justice and resentment toward societies which shunned them. Many are rejected by one if not both parents, and forced to walk their path alone.
Aaefling often suffers the same violence, mistrust, and fear as tieflings, but with an added layer of disgust as they appear more glorious and desirable than the average tiefling. With a lot of work some can attempt to pass as human as aasimar do, and so do their best to disguise their infernal heritage. Others do the opposite and try to pass as normal tieflings, having to accentuate their fiendish features. Those who make it to adulthood tend to live on the fringes of society, often as loners or in small groups with other outcasts.
Infernal and Celestial Bloodline
Aefling appears more human than their tiefling counterparts, but their infernal heritage leaves them clearly marked. Aefling generally has horns in the same variety as tieflings, though they tend to be significantly smaller. Some Nephalem even grind down their horns to make themselves more human-looking. Almost all are born with tails though not as long as most tieflings, usually only two to 4 feet, and much thinner almost light a whip. Most have only slightly exaggerated fangs, which appear unnaturally straight and glistening. They do not have solid colour eyes but their irises tend to be metallic. Their skin tones range across all the tiefling colourations but are lighter and less concentrated. Their hair is usually light, from blond to red to metallic gold and platinum.
Self-Reliant Wanderers
Very few aaefling exist in the world. Most aaefling are forced to live on the fringes of society, driven from cities and towns, they are outcasts and hermits. Misunderstood by most other races they don't stay in any one place for very long, and instead wander the world seeking a place that they can call home. When travelling, a aaefling tends to wear holds, closed helms, and other gear that allows them to conceal their identities.
Aaefling are not quick to trust anyone, but when a nephalem’s companions demonstrate that they trust him or her, the aaefling learns to extend the same trust to them. And once a aae gives someone loyalty, the aaefling is a firm friend or ally for life.
