Homebrew Concubus Species Details

Soulsuckers, ethereal killers, temptation personified: those are the titles of any typical fiend known as an incubus - if male - or succubus - if female - albeit they're known to change gender under certain circumstances. So far nobody had managed to classify, or align, them directly to either monsters of the Abyss or rulers of Nine Hells. As far as anyone with the knowledge of Outer Planes know, they're closer to yugoloths as they constantly radiate or threaten treason. Whether they serve demons, devils and the like out of self-interest, fear or simply to survive, we don't know. But the ones that learn to use more than just their innate ravishing personality grow from a charming fiend with an escape plan to a charming and deadly fiend with an escape plan.

Succubi and incubi personify evil in one of its' truest forms - desire for self-admiration and lust for the unobtainable by "good" means. Though this is typically the case, most of them are not inherently evil, being simply inclined towards it with their innate disregard for norms and preferring individuality above all else. Laws mean nothing to them, as those limit their manner of self-expression, and constant disobedience in their eyes has the flaw of inconsistency for the sake of spite. Whether living among humankind by choice, working for a greater fiend or creating a streak of misfortune for anyone they see, the greatest boon in their arsenal will always be their dashing looks and their wicked but slick personas.

Self above All Else

For the majority of succubi and incubi, taking care of someone other than themselves is always a means to an end. They may pretend that they care, and do so very convincingly, but otherwise see other creatures as ways to preserve their own freedom of choice and action. In rare cases when succubi or incubi actually develop empathy are often seen by themselves as "strange sensations", often struggling to understand why they're drawn to help someone when it's not beneficial for themselves.

Proud and Deceitful

No succubi/incubi would ever resort to belittling themselves without reason. Seeing themselves as puppeteers of "mere mortals", they are sometimes right.... and sometimes gravely mistaken. While capable of admitting mistakes, none would do so publicly unless it serves a purpose.

The essence of such fiends is lies, spinned to fool and misdirect, creating situations they can make use of or simply to avoid putting in effort. After all, why fight your own battles when others will do it for you?

Reformed but not Tamed

Those succubi and incubi not led towards evil by their "siblings" or the world around them often end up as courtiers, mercenaries and spies for anyone with enough money or providing enough entertainment for them. The change of worldview has little to affect the methods of a fiend, still resorting to underhanded tactics, manipulation and the most effective means of getting the job done. Universally, it's not the methods that matter - it's the outcome.

Succubi/Incubi Names

Succubi and incubi often use names of humanoids they disguise as, resorting to names fitting for the race they look like at the moment, though they all possess true names.

Succubi Names: Vizha, Mouri, Tyjre, Wameo, Sylla
Incubi Names: Boros, Vekho, Nangarim, Lomeg, Fash

Concubus Traits

Born of evil and wickedness, you gain multiple traits associated with the dwellers of Outer Planes.

Ability Score Increase

One of the ability scores of your choice increases by 2, and one other ability score of your choice increases by 1.

Age

Succubi and incubi are ageless fiends, typically reaching adulthood between the ages of 15 and 19 and will not die of old age.

Alignment

Due to their fiendish natures, succubi and incubi often tend toward evil alignments. Neutral or good ones are extremely rare, but not unheard of. They have no particular tendency toward or against lawful or chaotic alignments.

Size

Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Fiendish Nature

Your creature type is Fiend. You are also considered a shapechanger for any prerequisite or effect that requires you to be a shapechanger.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Shapechanger

As an action, you can transform your appearance or revert to your natural form. You can't duplicate the appearance of a creature you've never seen, and you revert to your natural form if you die.

You decide what you look like, including your height, weight, facial features, the sound of your voice, coloration, hair length, sex, and any other distinguishing characteristics. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race; you lose the flying speed granted by your wings trait if your current form does not have wings; otherwise, none of your game statistics change. You also can't appear as a creature of a different size than you, and your basic shape stays the same; if you're bipedal, you can't use this trait to become quadrupedal, for instance. However, you can make yourself taller or shorter by 1 foot. Your clothing and other equipment don't change in appearance, size, or shape to match your new form, requiring you to keep a few extra outfits on hand to make the most compelling disguise possible.

You stay in the new form until you use an action to revert to your true form or until you die.

Fiendish Legacy

While somewhat weaker than your counterparts that you may meet, your similarities to your brothers and sisters grow with you.

You gain proficiency with two of the following skills of your choice: Deception, Insight, Intimidation, Performance, or Persuasion. Starting at 5th level, bat-like wings sprout from your back, granting you flying speed equal to your walking speed. You cannot use your flying speed unless you are currently in a form which has no wings or when you are wearing medium or heavy armor.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and either Abyssal or Infernal.
