Ambystoma Traits

The Ambystoma are a rare aquatic race, native to pools located in underground caves and in a few ponds. They have an appearance very similar to the axolotl, except humanoid, and are often shades pink, blue, or brown.

Amphibious

You can breath both above and below the waves.

Darkvision

Born and raised in a life swimming in murky water, you have strong vision in dark conditions, you have perfect vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Regeneration

The feature of the Ambystoma that attracts most attention is its healing ability: the Ambystoma does not heal by scarring and is capable of the regeneration of entire lost appendages in a period of days, and, in certain cases, more vital structures, such as tail, limb, central nervous system, and tissues of the eye and heart. They can even restore less vital parts of their brains. They can also readily accept transplants from other Ambystomas, including eyes and parts of the brain—restoring these alien organs to full functionality.

You own a pool of healing strength, equal to one (1) charge per level, that recharges at a rate of one (1) charge when you take a Long Rest. With that pool, you may restore an inclusive number of Hit Points that equal your level x 5 per charge used. Limbs may be attached at the cut point and healed using one (1) charge of Regeneration. Limbs maybe regrown at the expense of four (4) charges worth of Regeneration and take a short rest complete.

Size

Ambystoma range from under 3 to over 5 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is small or medium

Ability Score increase

When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one of those scores by 2 or increase two different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy.

The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You’re free to follow those suggestions or to ignore them. Whichever scores you decide to increase, none of the scores can be raised above 20.
