Homebrew Cyborg Species Details
Physical Description
No cyborg is alike, each differing in physical appearance and internal devices. All cyborgs have their brains linked with highly intelligent “thinking machines” or Artificial Intelligences. These “AI” cannot speak, but subconsciously communicate with the cyborg, influencing it’s movements and actions ever so slightly to give it an edge in battle or any other situation. To protect itself, each cyborg has an electricity modulator in its body, which regulates how much energy can be in the cyborg at once, to prevent it from overheating or being electrified. If the electricity modulators gets to much energy, it forces it out of the body to protect the circuitry.
All cyborgs have metal parts in their bodies, with some visible on the outside and some internal. It’s impossible to have a fully robotic body, with only the vital organs on the inside, as any process to do so would kill the cyborg. Work with your DM to figure out how your metal parts look on you and how it affects you in social situations.
History
Cyborgs have many different origins, but they all have one thing in common: being born as a human and being turned into a cyborg through metal implants. The transformation process erases any racial traits a cyborg may have had in a previous life. The process takes expensive and rare equipment not always found in every world of D&D. If this is the case, maybe you came from another world, or have no memory of a previous life.
The transformation process implants devices into the transforming human’s brain and body. The result is a highly intelligent cyborg, strong warriors with enhanced brains. Some cyborgs were created for special reasons, like flying or crowd control.
Society
Cyborgs are usually outcasts of society, being called monsters by their neighbors and family. Some with minimal exterior parts try to hide their identity, and some with no exterior parts might not even realize who they are. On some rare occasions, cyborgs are seen as blessings from the gods and not machines. In these cases, cyborgs use their powers to help civilization, such as using wings to help build towers, or keeping the peace with their superior strength.
In some unfortunate cases, cyborgs are seen as nothing more than tools. A Strongarm may be forced to fight in an arena for sport, or a Winglord might be used as nothing more than a messenger that can deliver news over long distances. Some cyborgs got so fed up as being treated like second rate citizens that they rebelled. Despite not having the numbers, they took down many humanoids in the rebellion before almost being wiped out. After that, cyborgs were officially outlawed and they became more uncommon, but never went extinct.
Race Names
Cyborgs tend to have machine sounding names like RH-400, but sometimes have human nicknames for ease or fun. Like Arnold.
Cyborg Traits
A race whose physical abilities are extended beyond normal limitations by mechanical elements built into the body.Thermal Vision
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light, in addition to being able to see through objects in this range. You can see different colors, the hotter the object the more on the warm spectrum of the color wheel it will be.
Alignment
Cyborgs don’t tend to lean to any particular alignment unless they are programmed to.
Robotkin
Your creature type is both humanoid and construct.
Powerful Build
You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Due to your strong mechanical arm(s) being natural weapons, you can use them to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your strength modifier.
Implanted AI
You are proficient with the Investigation and Perception skills.
Metal Exterior
Parts of your body are coated in metal. If being attacked with physical force or an aimed projectile spell, you can make a 1d20 DEX saving throw. If successful, the damage taken is halved.
Ability Score Increase
Your intelligence score increases by 3.
Age
Cyborgs can live up to 500 years. After that, their human parts start to fail and can no longer be kept on life support from the robot parts. A multiversal cyborg's lifespan is technically infinite.
Size
Cyborgs are a little taller than humans on average and can weigh over 400 lb if their cyberware is heavy enough. Your size is medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. Humans typically learn the languages of other peoples they deal with, including obscure dialects. They are fond of sprinkling their speech with words borrowed from other tongues: Orc curses, Elvish musical expressions, Dwarvish military phrases, and so on.
