Homebrew Awakened Canine Species Details

Awakened Canines are wolves, dogs, or other "wolf-like" animals that have magically awakened. These creatures are able to speak and read common as well as cast spells and wield items. Awakened Canines are considered beasts and, as such, can't be affected by spells targeting humanoids. They are about 3ft tall and can live for 100 years. They can speak, read, and write Common and the language of the druid who awakened you (your choice).

Awakened Canines have enhanced senses but lack fine motor skills. They have proficiency in perception, athletics, investigation, and survival. They have disadvantages in sleight of hand and skill checks for held items.

Natural Armor- You have a tough hide. When you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC.

Natural Weapons- Your jaws are a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d8 + your Strength modifier instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Pull Down- If you hit a creature with your bite, you can attempt to drag it to the ground. The creature must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. The DC for this save is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength Modifier.
