Homebrew Anthropoid Ape Species Details

Anthropoid Apes lie between wild apes and humans on the scale of existence, having characteristics of both, yet lacking features of the other. They live in the deep forests and  jungles of the world, avoiding both man and his civilization, and their wild apes cousins. They live in loose clans or troops formed around a matriarch, her sisters, their male mates and their children. The breeding males are generally solitary, joining the clan during breeding season and fighting for dominance and breeding rights.

Anthropoid Apes, though civilization phoblc, sometimes have interactions with the civilized as entertainment (circuses, zoos, and freak shows), thieves (farm raiders, guild burglars, and assassins), and fighters (barbarian mercenaries, trackers, and scouts). They are almost never found as magic users or the religious (although there are reports of Anthropoids as Druid companions, and even Monks, if that can be believed).

Anthropoid Apes are generally neutral tending to chaotic. They are powerfully built and imposing, but simple in nature. They have no detectable religion beyond an undefined animism / ancestor worship tradition. Some speak a few words of Common, but most have only a very primitive language of hoots, growls, and gestures only slightly more sophisticated than their wild ape cousins.
